Acts 2:38!!!<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Locking Arms&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We all learn from each other.\u00a0 In this &#8220;true story,&#8221; God used this woman&#8217;s knowledge of this scripture reference to protect her in an unexpected way.\u00a0 Perhaps this reference was still fresh in her mind from the Bible study she had just attended.\u00a0 We learn things from others which help us through life.<\/p>\n<p>In real life, somewhere, somehow along the road,\u00a0 someone helped us in life&#8217;s journey.\u00a0 It may have been a simple word, a moment of counseling, or maybe even a smile.\u00a0 Somehow, God has a way of putting the right person in front of us at just the right time.\u00a0 We can all look back and remember someone who has touched us.<\/p>\n<p>In a sense, we&#8217;re joined with the saints who came before us so we can hand forward to the new generation. When we participate in worship, we are joining with the saints of all ages.\u00a0 It&#8217;s almost as if we&#8217;re entering that heavenly scene described in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=revelation+7%3A9-12&amp;version=TLB\" target=\"_blank\">Revelation 7<\/a><\/span> and worshiping with all of the saints from all ages.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">What&#8217;s a Saint?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>In the United Methodist Church, we don&#8217;t believe that a saint is some sort of elected office (for more info on the United Methodist Church&#8217;s position on saints, visit the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.umc.org\/what-we-believe\/do-united-methodists-believe-in-saints\" target=\"_blank\">UMC Website <\/a><\/span>FAQ page).\u00a0 A saint is anyone who has come to a saving relationship with God thought faith in Jesus Christ.\u00a0 If you believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, YOU are a saint!\u00a0 We become saints not because of any good works that we have done, but because of God&#8217;s grace and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross.\u00a0 A saint is someone &#8220;set apart for the exclusive use of God.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A child was once asked the question, &#8220;Who are saints?&#8221;\u00a0 His answer was wise beyond his years:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800080; font-size: 12pt;\">&#8220;Saints are people where the sun shines through.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Windows-Pentecost.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2841\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Windows-Pentecost.jpg\" alt=\"Windows-Pentecost\" width=\"353\" height=\"164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Windows-Pentecost.jpg 1502w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Windows-Pentecost-300x139.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/Windows-Pentecost-1024x475.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 353px) 100vw, 353px\" \/><\/a>And so a saint is like a stained glass window.\u00a0 As the sun shines through it, the window radiates the beauty of the Son.<\/p>\n<p>As windows are used to provide beauty, Saints are used by God to provide moments of ministry.\u00a0 Moments of when God&#8217;s light is shined into someone&#8217;s life.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Sainthood&#8221; isn&#8217;t a manmade office or special honor; it is a right given to anyone who is in Christ.\u00a0 The word Saint comes from the same root that means &#8220;Holy.&#8221;\u00a0 All believers are called to separate themselves from\u00a0 the things of the world (through the work of the Holy Spirit).\u00a0 We are all called to be &#8220;Holy&#8221; (or saints).\u00a0 Check out the following verses:<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-container et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_top_tabs'>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tRomans\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t1 Corinthians\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tEphesians\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tPhilippians\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tActs\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul> <!-- .et-tabs-control --> \n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Rom 1:6-7 6 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">And you also are among those who are called to belong to Jesus Christ.\u00a0 To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">saints<\/span><\/strong>: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/span>\u00a0\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<span style=\"color: #000000;\">1 Cor 1:1-3 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">saints<\/span><\/strong>, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours: \u00a0\u00a0 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>NKJV\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Eph 1:1-2 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, To the <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">saints<\/span><\/strong> who are in Ephesus, and faithful in Christ Jesus: \u00a0 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>NKJV\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Phil 1:1-2 1 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Paul and Timothy, bondservants of Jesus Christ, To all the<\/span> <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">saints<\/span><\/strong> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with the bishops and deacons: \u00a0 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>NKJV\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Acts 9:10-16 10 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Now there was a certain disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and to him the Lord said in a vision, &#8220;Ananias.&#8221; And he said, &#8220;Here I am, Lord.&#8221; So the Lord said to him, &#8220;Arise and go to the street called Straight, and inquire at the house of Judas for one called Saul of Tarsus, for behold, he is praying. \u00a0 And in a vision he has seen a man named Ananias coming in and putting his hand on him, so that he might receive his sight.&#8221; \u00a0 Then Ananias answered, &#8220;Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he has done to Your <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">saints<\/span><\/strong> in Jerusalem. \u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">And here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on Your name.&#8221; \u00a0 But the Lord said to him, &#8220;Go, for he is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel. \u00a0 For I will show him how many things he must suffer for My name&#8217;s sake.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p>NKJV\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .et-tabs-container -->\n<p>A saint is simply someone who recognizes they&#8217;re a sinner in need of grace, receives Jesus Christ, and is lifted up to do great things for God.<\/p>\n<p>We can all think of people who have assisted us along our journeys.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Remember the Saints&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>{<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>The congregation calls out names of people who have touched them, but the names aren&#8217;t audible in the recording.\u00a0 At one point Pastor Jim mentions that he&#8217;s heard &#8220;that name&#8221; many times and looks forward to meeting him on the other side of glory.\u00a0 He is speaking of Rev. Marvin Guice, who was our pastor from 1940 to 1958<\/em><\/span>}<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Stained-Glass-Window-Hazel-Stiles-_0336.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-1976\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Stained-Glass-Window-Hazel-Stiles-_0336.jpg\" alt=\"Stained Glass Window Hazel Stiles _0336\" width=\"298\" height=\"182\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Stained-Glass-Window-Hazel-Stiles-_0336.jpg 500w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Stained-Glass-Window-Hazel-Stiles-_0336-300x183.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Stained-Glass-Window-Hazel-Stiles-_0336-178x108.jpg 178w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 298px) 100vw, 298px\" \/><\/a>Who touched your life?\u00a0 Most of us can look back and remember someone who made a difference in our life.\u00a0 The person may not be famous.\u00a0 They never wrote a book, never preached a sermon, and there&#8217;s no holiday named after them.\u00a0 But somehow, the light of God shined through them in just the right way at just the right time.<\/p>\n<p>All of the windows in our sanctuary bear the name of some saint who at some period during our church&#8217;s history made a difference.\u00a0 They showed the love of God through their service, and now the beauty of God&#8217;s light shines through their window.<\/p>\n<p>In Hebrews 12 we&#8217;re reminded that we&#8217;re surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses.\u00a0 God calls us to remember those who came before us; those who He used in those special moments in our lives.\u00a0 We remember them not so much to honor them, but to thank God for His continual sustaining grace.<\/p>\n<p>The Ray Boltz song &#8220;Thank You for Giving to the Lord&#8221; shows us how God can use one of His unsung saints in humble service&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"THANK YOU FOR GIVING TO THE LORD by RAY BOLTZ with lyrics\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AWAv4qs_YnQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">\u00a0What about You???<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We are called to be vessels of light&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Matthew 5:16<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.&#8221; <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">John 8:12\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> <\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.&#8221; <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">1 Corinthians 10:31\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.&#8221;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">1 Peter 4:11\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n&#8220;If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever.
