October 19 was 2014’s Laity Sunday<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0 The suggested theme for this year’s Laity Sunday was “Engaging Small Groups.”\u00a0 Testimonies were given by members of two small groups, and then the scripture and sermon followed.\u00a0 In the audio below, Bryce Hogan read the scripture and the sermon was given by Larry Bakely.\u00a0 The title of the message was “The Fellowship of Believers,” and it was based on Acts 2:37-47.<\/span><\/address>\n

Acts 2:37-47<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t

37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” <\/span><\/p>\n

38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. <\/span><\/p>\n

39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off \u2014 for all whom the Lord our God will call.” <\/span><\/p>\n

40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.” <\/span><\/p>\n

41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. <\/span><\/p>\n

42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. <\/span><\/p>\n

43 Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. <\/span><\/p>\n

44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. <\/span><\/p>\n

45 Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. <\/span><\/p>\n

46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, <\/span><\/p>\n

47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.<\/span> NIV<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

“Fellowship” is a general all-purpose “churchy” word that gets thrown around a lot.\u00a0 But what does it mean?<\/p>\n
