I was exiled to the island of Patmos for preaching the word of God and for my testimony about Jesus. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">10 It was the Lord&#8217;s Day, and I was worshiping in the Spirit. Suddenly, I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet blast. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">11 It said, &#8220;Write in a book everything you see, and send it to the seven churches in the cities of Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea.&#8221; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">12 When I turned to see who was speaking to me, I saw seven gold lampstands. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">13 And standing in the middle of the lampstands was someone like the Son of Man. He was wearing a long robe with a gold sash across his chest. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">14 His head and his hair were white like wool, as white as snow. And his eyes were like flames of fire. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">15 His feet were like polished bronze refined in a furnace, and his voice thundered like mighty ocean waves. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">16 He held seven stars in his right hand, and a sharp two-edged sword came from his mouth. And his face was like the sun in all its brilliance. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as if I were dead. But he laid his right hand on me and said, &#8220;Don&#8217;t be afraid! I am the First and the Last. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">18 I am the living one. I died, but look\u2014I am alive forever and ever! Just as the Son of Man stood amidst the lampstands, the power of the resurrection is always in our own midst as we walk in the Light of Christ day in and day out.\u00a0 Every time we gather and worship, we should celebrate Easter.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .et-tabs-container -->\n<div class='et-box et-info'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Did you know: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We have reached the tipping point where more people attend church on Christmas Eve than on Easter Sunday?\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">But the church didn&#8217;t celebrate Christmas until the 3rd century! The early church&#8217;s focus was on the resurrection.<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p>Why do we focus more on the baby in the manger than on the risen Christ?\u00a0 Why is it that we focus more on the crucifixion than on the resurrection?\u00a0 Jesus isn&#8217;t our Suffering Servant today; He&#8217;s the risen glorious God! Without the resurrection, Jesus is just another misguided martyr.\u00a0 The resurrection shows that God has power over life and death.<\/p>\n<p>The early church focused on the resurrection; that&#8217;s why they met on Sunday (the first day of the week)- that&#8217;s when Jesus arose.\u00a0 Check out <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=acts+20%3A7&amp;version=TLB\" target=\"_blank\">Acts 20:7<\/a><\/span> and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+Corinthians+16%3A2&amp;version=TLB\" target=\"_blank\">1 Corinthians 16:2<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0 Going to &#8220;Church&#8221; on Sunday (or the &#8220;Lord&#8217;s day&#8221;) isn&#8217;t just a modern invention.\u00a0 We go to church because Christ arose.\u00a0 Because He&#8217;s there to infuse us with resurrection power and because we expect to meet Him.<\/p>\n<p>Our focus should be on the Glorified Resurrected Christ.\u00a0 We can&#8217;t die His death.\u00a0 In fact, even He can&#8217;t die it again.\u00a0 Jesus died so that we don&#8217;t have to.<\/p>\n<p>And yet, when Jesus said &#8220;It is finished&#8221; in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=john+19%3A30&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\">John 19:30<\/a><\/span>, He didn&#8217;t say &#8220;I am finished.&#8221;\u00a0 No.\u00a0 His work of transforming, sanctifying grace is always at work.\u00a0 Jesus&#8217; death brought on the resurrection which is the beginning, not the end!\u00a0 True, you must go through the cross to get to the empty tomb, but the empty tomb is where our power is.\u00a0 With the Holy Spirit, Jesus always stands in our midst to &#8220;infuse us with the resurrection power.&#8221;\u00a0 He is always with us to empower us to do His will and to glorify His Father.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">What would You Do if Jesus Came to Church Today?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>What would you do if Jesus suddenly slipped into the back\u00a0 door of our sanctuary???<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Offer Him your pew???\u00a0 Pray He doesn&#8217;t sit next to you???<\/li>\n<li>Secretly judge Him for wearing a robe and sandals or for having long hair???<\/li>\n<li>Be afraid???<\/li>\n<li>Bow down in reverence???<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Well here&#8217;s the thing:\u00a0 He IS here right now!\u00a0 In <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=matt+18%3A1-20&amp;version=TLB\" target=\"_blank\">Matthew 18:20<\/a><\/span> Jesus said that He would be there when we gather in His name.\u00a0 In verse 13 of today&#8217;s reading, Jesus is among the lampstands (the churches).\u00a0 In verse 16 He holds the seven starts (those who proclaim God&#8217;s Word).\u00a0 Jesus is among us to infuse us with His resurrection power.<\/p>\n<p>John was in prison; in exile.\u00a0 But &#8220;on the Lord&#8217;s day&#8221; he was in an attitude of worship, and the Lord showed up.\u00a0 He was expecting God to touch him.\u00a0 What&#8217;s our attitude when we come to worship???<\/p>\n<address><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">[Hmmm&#8230; maybe that&#8217;s why we list the scripture and sermon title on the home page of our website?]<\/span><\/address>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0\u00a0 &#8211;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<h5><span id=\"en-TLB-27693\" class=\"text Rev-1-13\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">v13:\u00a0 and standing among them was one who looked like Jesus, who called himself the Son of Man, wearing a long robe circled with a golden band across his chest.<\/span> <\/span><\/h5>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jesus knows what&#8217;s happening in HIS church.\u00a0 He&#8217;s standing among His people (like a shepherd) guiding them and protecting them.\u00a0 The gates of hell will not prevail against His church (<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=matthew+16%3A18&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\">Matthew 16:18<\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">).\u00a0 In the middle of fear, in the middle of uncertainty, Jesus shows up.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h5><span id=\"en-TLB-27694\" class=\"text Rev-1-14\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">v14:\u00a0 His hair was white as wool or snow, and his eyes penetrated like flames of fire.<\/span> <\/span><\/h5>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=matthew+17&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\">Matthew 17:2-3<\/a> <\/span>describes Jesus&#8217; appearance during the Transfiguration.\u00a0 His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became white as the light.\u00a0 The description there is very similar to the one we see here in Revelation.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When Moses emerged from his meeting\u00a0 with God, his face glowed (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=exodus+34%3A29-35&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\">Exodus 34<\/a><\/span>).\u00a0 In much the same\u00a0 way, people should be able to tell when we&#8217;ve been walking with God.\u00a0 Something within us should flow out and look different.\u00a0 Seeing God brings about a deep seeded joy that should shine out.\u00a0 When we are transformed by the renewing of our minds, we&#8217;ll recognize that He is\u00a0 in our midst (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=romans+12%3A1-2&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\">Romans 12:1-2<\/a><\/span>).<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">His Eyes are &#8220;like fire.&#8221;\u00a0 They&#8217;re Bright!\u00a0 Jesus is all knowing and He sees right through us (take a look at Jesus&#8217; conversations with Nicodemus in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+3&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\">John 3<\/a><\/span> or with the Samaritan woman in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+4&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\">John 4<\/a><\/span>). Jesus has a way of seeing right through people&#8217;s pretenses and cutting right to the core issues.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jesus can look right through us and know our hearts.\u00a0 He understands our motives.\u00a0 And yet He still wants our total commitment&#8230; and that&#8217;s scary!<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span id=\"en-TLB-27695\" class=\"text Rev-1-15\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">v15:\u00a0 His feet gleamed like burnished bronze, and his voice thundered like the waves against the shore.<\/span> <\/span><\/h5>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Niagra-Falls.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-3828\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Niagra-Falls-300x234.jpg\" alt=\"Niagra Falls\" width=\"105\" height=\"82\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Niagra-Falls-300x234.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Niagra-Falls-430x340.jpg 430w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Niagra-Falls.jpg 435w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 105px) 100vw, 105px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Ever been\u00a0 to Niagara Falls?\u00a0 The roar of the falling water is deafening.\u00a0 And, you can&#8217;t get away from\u00a0 it.\u00a0 But there&#8217;s something soothing about it.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not an annoying sound.\u00a0 It&#8217;s strong and powerful, but you want to be around it.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span id=\"en-TLB-27696\" class=\"text Rev-1-16\" style=\"color: #ff0000;\">v16:\u00a0\u00a0 He held seven stars in his right hand and a sharp, double-bladed sword in his mouth,\u00a0 and his face shone like the power of the sun in unclouded brilliance.<\/span><\/h5>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The term &#8220;7 Stars&#8221; is often interpreted to mean the &#8220;pastors&#8221; of the 7 churches.\u00a0 But in the Greek, the word really refers to anyone who is sharing the Gospel.\u00a0 Jesus commanded all of us to make disciples (<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Matthew+28%3A19-20&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\">Matthew 28:19-20<\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">).\u00a0 In that passage (&#8220;the Great Commission&#8221;) Jesus also promised to be with us always.\u00a0 He&#8217;s here to guide us and empower us.\u00a0 He holds us with His authority in His <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=3552\" target=\"_blank\">Right Hand<\/a><\/span>.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He&#8217;s got us in His right hand, so why are we afraid to share the Gospel?\u00a0 He&#8217;s go all of us who are sharing the Gospel right here&#8230; in His Right Hand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He commanded us to make disciples of Jesus Christ; not of a church or of a religion.\u00a0 He has empowered us the the Holy Spirit and with His Word (the sword which is in His mouth).\u00a0 No one can overcome the power of His Word (see what happened in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\"><a style=\"color: #0000ff; text-decoration: underline;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Rev.+19%3A19-21&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\">Revelation 19:21<\/a><\/span><\/span>).\u00a0 The same metaphor is used in<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=eph+6%3A10-18&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\">Ephesians 6:17<\/a><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">and<\/span>\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=heb+4%3A12-13&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\">Hebrews 4:12<\/a><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Word of God (the Bible) is like a sword that can protect us and defeat evil.\u00a0 It is the irresistible power and authority of God.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It might be raining on the ground, but when you reach 10,000 feet and climb over the clouds, suddenly the sun is out.\u00a0 Everything is pristine and beautiful,\u00a0 and the sun is so bright that you can&#8217;t look at it.\u00a0 Even though it&#8217;s raining and dark below, the power of the sun is above.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span id=\"en-TLB-27697\" class=\"text Rev-1-17-Rev-1-18\" style=\"color: #ff0000;\">v 17-18:\u00a0\u00a0 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead; but he laid his right hand on me and said, <span class=\"woj\">\u201cDon\u2019t be afraid! Though I am the First and Last, the Living One who died, who is now alive forevermore, who has the keys of hell and death\u2014don\u2019t be afraid!<\/span> <\/span> <span id=\"en-TLB-27698\" class=\"text Rev-1-19\"><\/span><\/h5>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When we realize God in our lives, our reaction should be to bow down in holy reverence.\u00a0 God is holy and power and deserves our all in all.\u00a0 And yet,\u00a0 He loves us.\u00a0 He protects us.\u00a0 Jesus tells John, &#8220;Don&#8217;t be afraid!&#8221;\u00a0 Don&#8217;t worry.\u00a0 I have your back.\u00a0 Look at Me; don&#8217;t look at the &#8220;waves&#8221; or get caught up in your own failures.\u00a0 I am holding you.\u00a0 I am with you always, even to the end of the age.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">When we get a handle on who this Jesus is, it gives us hope every single day.<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Homework!<\/span><\/h3>\n<div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pastor Jim challenged us to read this passage every single day this week, and take a few moments each day and reflect on it.\u00a0 Allow the Holy Spirit to paint the picture for you.\u00a0 When you get into a situation that&#8217;s fearful, or a situation that we don&#8217;t want- ask the Holy Spirit to <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">remind you of this Jesus<\/span><\/strong>.\u00a0 See if it doesn&#8217;t make all the difference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">On each day of this week (Monday September 22, 2014 through Saturday September 27, 2014) the &#8220;<strong><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Hot News Ticker<\/span><\/strong>&#8221; on the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a title=\"758 N.
