We&#8217;ve seen that God calls us for a special purpose and how we&#8217;re missing out if we run from our calling.\u00a0 Like Jonah, God rescues those who are in a &#8220;pit&#8221;, regardless of how they got there.\u00a0 Nobody is hopeless and beyond God&#8217;s grace.\u00a0 Unlike Jonah, don&#8217;t give up on redemption- God can seek and find anyone.\u00a0 God constantly offers us &#8220;Grace&#8221;- gifts we can&#8217;t earn and forgiveness we don&#8217;t deserve.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">In this cover article for the May 2026 issue of PUMC&#8217;s church newsletter (&#8220;Steeple Notes&#8221;), Pastor Mike considers how we reject God&#8217;s grace when we don&#8217;t &#8220;seek first the Kingdom of God&#8221; (as Jesus said in Matthew 6:33).<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As we go through the book of Jonah in our Sunday morning series, I cannot stop thinking about Jonah 2:8. This verse has stopped me in my tracks for weeks and I cannot get it out of my head.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<div class='author-shortcodes'>\n\t\t\t<div class='author-inner'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='author-image'>\n\t\t\t<img src='https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/et_temp\/Bible-LifeApp-Study-_0644x600-217582_60x60.jpg' alt='' \/>\n\t\t\t<div class='author-overlay'><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div> <!-- .author-image --> \n\t\t<div class='author-info'>\n\t\t\t<p><span style=\"color: #993366; font-size: 14pt;\"><em>Those who worship false gods turn their backs on all God\u2019s mercies.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">&#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bible.com\/bible\/111\/JON.2.NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jonah 2:8<\/a><\/p>\n\t\t<\/div> <!-- .author-info -->\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .author-inner -->\n\t\t<\/div> <!-- .author-shortcodes -->\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We have been blessed as a nation and blessed as a country, and my fear is that sometimes in that blessing we have chosen good for what is best and even wrong for what is right. God\u2019s mercy and grace is waiting for us all day, but how many have abandoned God? <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As scripture says<\/span>, have <em>turned their backs on God, therefore, turned their backs on grace<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-11203\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Look-_women-435637_400x300-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"140\" height=\"105\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Look-_women-435637_400x300-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Look-_women-435637_400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 140px) 100vw, 140px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On this day, do not choose worthless idols to fill your hearts that should be filled by the Holy Spirit. I need grace every day and I cannot turn grace away, therefore I cannot turn Jesus away.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus said that the \u201c<em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.<\/span><\/em>\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bible.com\/bible\/111\/MAT.9.NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">see Matthew 9:35-38<\/a>).\u00a0 \u00a0Let us give to the Lord and encourage others that there is only one Lord and his name is Jesus! You may say, \u201cthere are no more idols,\u201d but it&#8217;s my belief that there are certainly idols. Money and power are certainly idols that many people seek and worship.
