It was an overcast but comfortable day, and we all gathered together to celebrate community.\u00a0 For the adults, 55 classic cars were on display.\u00a0 For the kids there was a bounce house and sand art.\u00a0 For everyone, there was lots of food (provided by two lunch trucks, the Water Ice Station, and Christmas Marketplace cookies).\u00a0 It was estimated that over 400 people attended PUMC’s “second annual” Car Show!\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Car Show<\/span><\/h2>\n

The 55 cars parked in our parking lot looked “a bit different” from the cars that usually occupy that space during the week, or on a Sunday morning.\u00a0 There were Cobras, Pace Cars that could go over 200 MPH, Muscle cars like Corvettes, Mustangs, Trans Ams and Camaros.\u00a0 And there were slower but practical vehicles such as Model T’s, pickup trucks, Chevy Novas, and Ford Falcons.\u00a0 And there were unusual vehicles such as an Italian made 3-cylinder van (similar to the one featured as a time machine in one of the Harry Potter movies).<\/p>\n

And besides the cars, the star attraction was the community.\u00a0 People wandered around the parking lot sharing memories with the car’s owners, catching up with eachother, and just enjoying some time together.\u00a0 And- there was food:\u00a0 Hot Dogs, BBQ, and Water Ice.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Why a Car Show????<\/span><\/h2>\n

The car show and then entire afternoon was fun.\u00a0 But why would a church want to put on an event like this?\u00a0 How does this advance the church’s purpose of sharing the Gospel and glorifying God?\u00a0 Several analogies and lessons can be learned from the car show.\u00a0 Here are two examples of what we can learn about God at a car show:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

1:\u00a0 He Knows My Name<\/span><\/h3>\n

One of the songs that most of us learn in Sunday School is “Jesus Loves Me, This I know<\/a>“.\u00a0 But there’s a lot of truth in twisting that phrase around:\u00a0 Jesus Knows Me, this I Love”.\u00a0<\/p>\n

God does know a lot about cars, but He knows us too.\u00a0 Another “church cliche” says:<\/p>\n

If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it!<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

As we walk around the rows of cars, it might be difficult for us to recognize the make and model.\u00a0 Yes, there are some famous grills; it’s not too hard to recognize a T’Bird.\u00a0 And if you owned one of those cars “back in the day”, the grill would bring back some old memories that you’d recognize.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jesus Knows Me, This I Love…<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

How’d you do?\u00a0 Ten cars are pictured above- did you recognize all of them?\u00a0 Imagine that the above gallery of 10 car photos were replaced with photos of 10 BILLION cars.\u00a0 Our recognition percentage would be very, very low!\u00a0 But God would score a perfect 100%.<\/p>\n

Today, an estimated 8.2 billion people live on the earth.\u00a0 And, it’s been estimated<\/a> that over 117 billion people have walked the face of this earth since our planet was created.<\/p>\n

Is it beyond our infinite God to know all of us?\u00a0 No!\u00a0 God does<\/em> know all of us!\u00a0 The Bible makes this amazing fact clear over and over…..
