{"id":35996,"date":"2025-10-12T00:00:21","date_gmt":"2025-10-12T04:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=35996"},"modified":"2025-10-27T10:06:43","modified_gmt":"2025-10-27T14:06:43","slug":"keep-your-guitar-in-tune","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=35996","title":{"rendered":"Keep Your Guitar in Tune"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">All of us play a musical instrument!\u00a0 What?!?\u00a0 You might be saying that you have absolutely no musical talent and you couldn&#8217;t tell the difference between a bass drum and an alto sax.\u00a0 But all of us who have the breath of life in us were created by God to &#8220;play&#8221; a special kind of &#8220;music&#8221; that points our being to Him.\u00a0 Like any stringed instrument, in order to play that music, we need to be in tune.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Hang on&#8230; this strained analogy will make sense by the time you reach the end of this post&#8230;.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Consider the following verse from the Hebrew songbook (which we call The Psalms)&#8230;.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<div class='author-shortcodes'>\n\t\t\t<div class='author-inner'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='author-image'>\n\t\t\t<img src='https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/et_temp\/Bible-LifeApp-Study-_0644x600-217582_60x60.jpg' alt='' \/>\n\t\t\t<div class='author-overlay'><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div> <!-- .author-image --> \n\t\t<div class='author-info'>\n\t\t\t<div class=\"ChapterContent_q1__wjdiM\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><em><span class=\"ChapterContent_verse__57FIw\" style=\"color: #993366;\" data-usfm=\"PRO.12.10\"><span class=\"ChapterContent_content__RrUqA\">Sing to Him a new song, play skillfully and shout for joy.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><em style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><span class=\"ChapterContent_verse__57FIw\" style=\"color: #993366;\" data-usfm=\"PRO.12.10\"><span class=\"ChapterContent_content__RrUqA\">.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bible.com\/bible\/111\/PSA.33.NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Psalm 33<\/a>:<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bible.com\/bible\/111\/PSA.33.NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">3<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\t\t<\/div> <!-- .author-info -->\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .author-inner -->\n\t\t<\/div> <!-- .author-shortcodes -->\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-download'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The thoughts in this post were submitted by a member of PUMC&#8217;s praise team&#8230;<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p>I read a devotional last week that talked about musical instruments and how their strings were attached to specific instruments.\u00a0 So now I\u2019m thinking, ok so the obvious ones have strings, guitar, violin.\u00a0 But so does a piano.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Stretching the Strings&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The pitch of the strings on these instruments is adjusted by stretching or relaxing them to the right tension.<\/p>\n<p>Now if you think about the strings, maybe they get out of tune when the instrument is not played, or temperatures may affect the tune.\u00a0 But all these strings get stretched in one way or another. As a musician, I know if my instrument is not tuned, it will not blend into the song we are playing.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-27379 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Easter21-Out-ChrisGuitar_IMG_3387-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Easter21-Out-ChrisGuitar_IMG_3387-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Easter21-Out-ChrisGuitar_IMG_3387.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We are like those guitar strings.\u00a0 God is always stretching us to be more like Him.\u00a0 We go through challenging situations and different trials.\u00a0 We have to keep looking to Him and have that strong faith that His plan is the best, even if we don\u2019t understand it. And if we don\u2019t pay attention, we will definitely be out of tune with the Lord.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Energizing the Strings&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>When a guitar string is out of tune, it&#8217;s often weak and loose.\u00a0 It&#8217;s flat and it has no &#8220;spring&#8221; to it that will cause it to vibrate at the right pitch.<\/p>\n<p>So let\u2019s look at Psalm 33:3. \u201c<strong><em><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Sing to him a new song, Play skillfully and shout for joy.<\/span><\/em><\/strong>\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Maybe you&#8217;re saying,\u00a0 <br \/>\n&#8220;<span style=\"color: #003300;\"><em>I don\u2019t play an instrument so now what?&#8221; What&#8217;s this got to do with me???<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>This scripture is just encouraging us to look at worship with a new and fresh mindset.\u00a0 Like the strings of an instrument, build up that enthusiasm, whether you&#8217;re shouting for joy out loud or shouting for joy in your heart.\u00a0 <em><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">For me everything is out loud.\u00a0 But everyone is different.<\/span><\/em>\u00a0 God knows your heart.<\/p>\n<p>We need fresh energy and need to tune into what God is revealing to us.\u00a0 We need to have that excitement that flows from our heart to show God that we love Him so much and we will be faithful to Him.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Keep Listening and Keep Tuning&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We need to reset our minds and tune up our thoughts, every single morning, and we have to tune our souls, to be on that perfect<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-5516 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Sign-Music-Tune-My-Heart-_IMG_1540-221x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"221\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Sign-Music-Tune-My-Heart-_IMG_1540-221x300.jpg 221w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/Sign-Music-Tune-My-Heart-_IMG_1540.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 221px) 100vw, 221px\" \/> pitch before we start our day.\u00a0 Our circumstances can be a little FLAT as we go throughout the day or our circumstances can be SHARP as a tack.\u00a0 Keep tuning your ear to and listen to what the Holy Spirit is telling you the rest of the day.<\/p>\n<p>Just like when you\u2019re playing a song on the guitar, and all in a sudden as you&#8217;re playing, your guitar goes out of tune. What happened?\u00a0 That string just slipped a little bit. But what do you do?\u00a0 You just stop for a minute and tune it back up.\u00a0 Just like when we try our hardest to follow God, but sometimes we slip a little bit.\u00a0 So right then and there we stop, refocus and get back on track to be back in perfect pitch with Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Broken Strings Can Be Restored!<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Just like the guitar strings, one string might break or even wear thin.
