{"id":35500,"date":"2025-04-28T09:23:43","date_gmt":"2025-04-28T13:23:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=35500"},"modified":"2025-05-09T08:52:24","modified_gmt":"2025-05-09T12:52:24","slug":"bands-to-battle-to-share-gospel-in-mexico-5-3-25","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=35500","title":{"rendered":"Bands to Battle to Share Gospel in Mexico (5\/3\/25)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Later this year, the PUMC and <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/fumccollingswood.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">First UMC of Collingswood<\/a><\/span> are sponsoring a Missions Trip to La Palmilla Mexico to help this United Methodist Church expand their building.\u00a0 The church in La Palmilla is &#8220;bursting at the seams&#8221;, and we are helping them to expand their ministry.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">On Saturday 5\/3\/25, PUMC will host a &#8220;Battle of the Bands&#8221; event to raise funds for the construction in La Palmilla.\u00a0 All\u00a0 of the proceeds will be delivered directly to the folks in La Palmilla (the &#8220;Battle of the Bands&#8221; is not being used to fund the mission team&#8217;s travel expenses).<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Battle of the Bands&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #003300;\">BY WHOM<\/span><\/strong>:\u00a0 Praise bands from local churches<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #003300;\">FOR WHOM<\/span><\/strong>:<span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0 Anyone!!!<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #003300;\">WHAT:<\/span><\/strong> An evening of music, worship, and other fun stuff.\u00a0 The sale of refreshments and proceeds from a &#8220;Silent Auction&#8221; will raise funds to aid in the construction project in La Palmilla Mexico.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #003300;\">WHERE<\/span><\/strong>:\u00a0 Pitman UMC (<a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?page_id=609\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">click for directions<\/a>)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #003300;\">WHEN<\/span><\/strong>:\u00a0 Saturday May 3, 6:00-8:30 PM<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">&#8220;Battle&#8221; of the Bands?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The hymn &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hymnsite.com\/lyrics\/umh575.sht\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Onward Christian Solders<\/a>&#8221; describes the Christian&#8217;s role in the world as a soldier marching into battle.\u00a0 In his letter to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bible.com\/bible\/111\/1TI.1.NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Timothy<\/a>, Paul warned the young pastor about the evils in the world and encouraged him to &#8220;fight the <strong><em>battle<\/em><\/strong> well&#8221;, and to hold &#8220;on to faith and a good conscience&#8230;&#8221;\u00a0 \u00a0Paul told the Ephesians that we were in a <strong><em>struggle<\/em><\/strong> &#8220;against the powers of this dark world.&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bible.com\/bible\/111\/EPH.6.NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ephesians 6:12<\/a>)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;battle&#8221; in this evening of music is not <span style=\"color: #003300;\"><em>BETWEEN<\/em><\/span> the Bands; this isn&#8217;t a competition.\u00a0 It truly is a battle <span style=\"color: #003300;\"><em>OF <\/em><\/span>the bands; musicians and all who attend are &#8220;banding together&#8221; to share the Gospel of Jesus. We&#8217;re &#8220;fighting against&#8221; the obstacles which divide people from enjoying a full relationship with God which is available through the grace of Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong><em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Feed My Sheep&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bible.com\/bible\/111\/JHN.21.NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John 21<\/a>, Jesus told Peter (and us) to &#8220;feed His sheep&#8221;.\u00a0 We are forgiven so that we can truly love Jesus, and we express our love by caring for God&#8217;s people.\u00a0 The church in La Palmilla is doing just that, and we want to help them.\u00a0 The hymn &#8220;Onward Christian Solders&#8221; reminds us that we&#8217;re all one Church:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8220;<em><span style=\"color: #993366;\">We are not divided, all one body we.\u00a0 One in hope and doctrine, one in charity<\/span><\/em>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>In La Palmilla, \u00a0the church is organizing a Vacation Bible School that attracts so many kids that they don&#8217;t have room for them.\u00a0 The community&#8217;s thirst for knowledge is great, but they don&#8217;t have a library.\u00a0 Their love for Jesus is intense, but they don&#8217;t have the financial resources to carry out their mission.<\/p>\n<p>So we want to join in the &#8220;battle&#8221;, and this &#8220;Battle of the Bands&#8221; is a chance for the communities around Pitman to help the community of La Palmilla Mexico feed Jesus&#8217; sheep.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, we held a similar &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=17464\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Battle of the Bands<\/a>&#8221;
