At PUMC, we operate from a passion that “Everyone know Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord…”\u00a0 And we do that by constantly “creating a climate where spiritual growth occurs.”\u00a0 Those words are from our official purpose statement that’s posted over the door to the sanctuary.\u00a0 But that “climate where spiritual growth occurs” isn’t limited to the Sanctuary.\u00a0 It’s not limited to Sunday morning.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

During COVID, when just about every Sanctuary was closed, Pastor Mike started posting short videos giving a time of praise and worship… a chance to focus on God in the hidden places of our day to day lives.\u00a0 A “climate where spiritual growth occurs” when the sanctuary door is closed and the calendar is pointing at a day other than Sunday.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Catacomb Praise<\/span><\/h3>\n

Pastor Mike has been posting these videos (roughly 30-45 minutes in length) on his facebook page for several years, going back to the pandemic in 2020-2021.\u00a0 After the pandemic ended and sanctuaries began to open again, he continued to post\"\" these mid-week times of worship so that we could “recharge our batteries” during the middle of the week.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Each video opens with 3-4 songs (contemporary or traditional hymns- Pastor Mike can play and sing all styles<\/span><\/em>).\u00a0 He then opens the Word and gives a short devotion, and then leads us in prayer.\u00a0 Then, he closes the session with 2-3 more songs.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Since coming to PUMC<\/a> as our senior pastor, Pastor Mike has continued to make these weekly videos.\u00a0 \u00a0And, since he arrived last July (2024), the videos have also been posted on the PUMC website.<\/p>\n

Even if you don’t “do Facebook,” you can view Catacomb Praise via our church website.\u00a0 Every episode (since Pastor Mike was appointed to PUMC in July 2024) is available on the “Catacomb Praise” page.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

200 Episodes of Praise!<\/span><\/h3>\n

If you keep doing something consistently for a long enough time, it’s amazing how the numbers begin to add up!\u00a0 Keep making those mortgage payments for years and years, and eventually the house will be all yours.\u00a0 Read the Bible every day for 10 years and you’ll be surprised at how many of your Bible’s pages become marked with your notes.\u00a0 And if you keep making videos of Praise and Worship every week, eventually you’ll hit a mile marker such as 200 episodes!<\/p>\n

Celebration!<\/span><\/h3>\n

So we’re going to celebrate this mile marker of 200 episodes.\u00a0 There are many more to come, but it’s good to gather together to celebrate what God is doing in our lives.\u00a0 It’s good to not only look back in thanksgiving, but to look forward in anticipation.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Usually Pastor Mike sets up his iPad on a stand and records Catacomb Praise by himself.\u00a0 But to celebrate this 200th episode, he’s inviting all of us to participate as a “Live Studio Audience”.\u00a0 It will be “taped” in our Sanctuary on Monday March 3, 2025 starting at 7:00 PM.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

During the pandemic in 2020, Pastor Mike was burdened by the fact that we couldn’t meet together for times of praise and worship, so he began to post videos of music and scripture. They were intended to reach us during our time away from the sanctuary, and he called them “Catacomb Praise.”
\nOver the years, 199 of these videos have now been posted!
