(7\/7\/24)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Clergy in the United Methodist Church are &#8220;itinerate&#8221;; they are appointed to a local church for a season.\u00a0 Earlier this year, we bid a difficult goodbye to Pastor Jim Bolton.\u00a0 But we have now reached the time where a new &#8220;chapter&#8221; will begin under the leadership of our new pastor, Rev. Mike Chapman.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">The Chapmans have arrived in Pitman!\u00a0 \u00a0Pastor Mike&#8217;s first Sunday at PUMC was on 7\/7\/24,\u00a0 and we threw a big celebration party after (and during) the service.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-bio'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h4><em><span style=\"color: #800000;\">The Transition is Over!<\/span><\/em><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pastor Mike officially became our senior pastor on July 1 2024, but we had to wait until July 7 for our first Sunday together.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We&#8217;ve been through a 6-month period of &#8220;transition.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">January 27, 2024:<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 It was announced that Rev. Jim Bolton was not going to be re-appointed to PUMC.\u00a0 Instead, Rev. Mike Chapman would be appointed, effective July 1 2024.\n<p><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">March 3, 2024<\/span>:<\/strong> Pastor Jim&#8217;s final Sunday at PUMC.\u00a0 Due to family health issues, Pastor Jim had to retire before his appointment ended.\u00a0\u00a0\n<p><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000080;\">March 10, 2024:<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 Easter.\u00a0 Rev. Glenn Conaway (our District Superintendent) filed in.\u00a0 He was with us throughout the month and then again in June.\u00a0 Rev. I am originally from Shamokin, Pa and happily found my way to South Jersey with my college sweetheart, Jackie.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-32916 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Chapman-Mike-Jackie-_IMG_1220-_400x300-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"141\" height=\"106\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Chapman-Mike-Jackie-_IMG_1220-_400x300-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Chapman-Mike-Jackie-_IMG_1220-_400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 141px) 100vw, 141px\" \/> <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\">In 2002, my wife and I answered the Lord\u2019s call to full time ministry after graduating from Eastern University. I received a Bachelors in youth ministry and minor in communications (2002) and a Master of Divinity degree from Palmer Seminary (2012). My wife Jackie received a bachelor&#8217;s degree in social work (2002) and has a special education graduate teaching certificate from Rowan University. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\">We first served and ministered at Aldine UMC for 19 years in various pastoral roles. I have served as a youth, music, young adult, family, children\u2019s, visitation and associate pastor. I have seen and gone through the blessings and challenges of all those pastoral roles. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\">From Aldine, I served a two-point charge at <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/historicumc.weebly.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dennisville<\/a><\/span>&#8211;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/tuckahoeumc.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tuckahoe<\/a><\/span> UMC for three years as senior pastor. I am a dedicated minister to a multigenerational community within the congregation and outside the walls of the church. I am passionate about Jesus, the forgotten, the lonely, the lost, the hurting, outcasts and empowering the body of Christ. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\">I love playing the guitar, drums, singing, writing music and using those gifts and abilities for ministry. I have a passion for praise and worship music and love the arts such as acting and theatre. If I have any downtime, you will find that I will be writing songs and sipping a good cup of coffee and spending time with family. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800080;\">We are all Philadelphia Eagle and Philadelphia Phillies fans, but the biggest fans for Jesus!<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #003366;\">Let&#8217;s Worship Together!<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On\u00a0 Sunday July 7 2024, the congregation was able to meet the Chapmans in person.\u00a0 During our first worship service together, we celebrated their appointment and looked forward to a future of sharing the Gospel with eachother and with our community.<\/p>\n<p>During the service, Ron Brown (the chair of our Staff-Parrish Relations Committee) officially introduced Pastor Mike and his family to our congregation. Jackie (Pastor Mike&#8217;s wife) thanked the church for their welcome, and then Micha (Pastor Mike&#8217;s son) introduced himself to the youth.\u00a0 Micha will serve an internship by helping with the kids and youth.\u00a0 Larry Bakely (Lay Leader) presented Pastor Mike with the stole which had been left by Pastor Jim.\u00a0 The stole symbolizes our common yoke with Christ and looks to the future as our pastor leads us to fresh ways to &#8220;create a climate where spiritual growth will occur&#8221; to be famous for themselves.\u00a0 But God gave us abilities so we could use them for Him.\u00a0 \u00a0Instead of trying to make yourself look good, we have what we have so we can make God look good.\u00a0 Instead of trying to become a famous &#8220;star&#8221;, use your &#8220;guitars&#8221; was on <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bible.com\/bible\/111\/JHN.4.NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John 4:4-26<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0 In this passage, Jesus sends His disciples off, and then He sits down at a well.\u00a0 It&#8217;s noon, in the heat of the day (long past when &#8220;normal&#8221; people come to the well for the day&#8217;s supply of water).\u00a0 But a women comes alone to fill her jug.\u00a0 She is a Samaritan, and Jews normally don&#8217;t even give them the time of day.\u00a0 But Jesus speaks with her.\u00a0 Jesus breaks the norms and does the unexpected.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-14464 \" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Pump-water-1227680__400x457-263x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"207\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Pump-water-1227680__400x457-263x300.jpg 263w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/Pump-water-1227680__400x457.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 207px) 100vw, 207px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This woman came in the heat of the day because she was rejected by her community, perhaps even by her family.\u00a0 She didn&#8217;t want to deal with the naysayers and looks of disgust, so she came alone.\u00a0 She had been married five times and was currently living with a man who wasn&#8217;t her husband.\u00a0 She was carrying a load of pain and guilt, and Jesus knew all about her.\u00a0 And yet, Jesus asks her for a drink, and engages in conversation.\u00a0 He gracefully turns the discussion about literal water from a well into Living Water from heaven.\u00a0 The literal water the woman came to get from the well will soon run out and she&#8217;ll have to return for more.\u00a0 The Living Water that Jesus offered her springs up and grows and will never run out.\u00a0 The Living Water satisfies thirsts that the literal water will never meet.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus knew this woman&#8217;s pain and frustrations&#8230; <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><em>Can you relate?<\/em><\/span>\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tShe was tired of being tired&#8230;.\u00a0 <em><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Can you relate?<\/span><\/em>\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tShe wanted something real and genuine&#8230; <em><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Can you relate?<\/span><\/em>\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tShe was sick of religion, but knew she needed a Savior&#8230; <em><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Can you relate?<\/span><\/em>\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tShe needed a movement, something to touch her heart&#8230; <em><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Can you relate?<\/span><\/em>\n\t\t<\/div>\u00a0\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div> <!-- .et-simple-slider -->\n\t\t\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/S._M._Lockridge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr. S.M. Lockridge<\/a> <\/span>(<em><span style=\"color: #ff00ff; font-size: 10pt;\">world renown author and preacher<\/span><\/em>) wrote that &#8220;the world is a wilderness of want.&#8221; \u00a0 There is an ache in the corner of every soul that can&#8217;t be quenched without the healing power of Jesus.\u00a0 Until you have dealt with this ache it&#8217;s like an annoying\u00a0 leaky faucet.\u00a0 It never goes away: <strong><em>drip&#8230;. drip&#8230; drip&#8230;.<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 You need something real.\u00a0 You&#8217;re done with organization.\u00a0 You just need the Savior.\u00a0 We try to satisfy ourselves with the things of the world, but it never lasts.\u00a0 Temporary satisfaction just leaks away:\u00a0 <strong><em>drip&#8230; drip&#8230;. drip&#8230;\u00a0<\/em><\/strong> The happiness offered by this world is temporary.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll always need to come back for more.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There are thirsts that only Jesus can fill.\u00a0 If you have Jesus, you have Hope, Joy, Peace.\u00a0 If you have Jesus you have it all.\u00a0 Jesus digs a well into your soul and fills you with Living water that never runs dry.\u00a0 \u00a0Jesus knows everything about us and loves us anyway.\u00a0 He knows our emptiness better than we do, and He wants to fill it.<\/p>\n<p>The woman at the well came for literal water.\u00a0 She spoke about water at the bottom of a well, but met a Man who talked about Living Water.\u00a0 Eventually, she began to understand.\u00a0 She came to fulfill a daily chore, but she left excited.\u00a0 She was changed.\u00a0 She came with an empty jug, but left without the jug.\u00a0 She came feeling rejected, but left feeling known by the Messiah.\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4436 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/waves-circles-285359__180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"270\" height=\"180\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/waves-circles-285359__180.jpg 270w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/waves-circles-285359__180-140x94.jpg 140w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 270px) 100vw, 270px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If we can be excited by the Phillies or Eagles, why can&#8217;t we be excited about eternal life?\u00a0 If we can talk about our favorite sports teams, or about the weather, or about &#8220;fun times&#8221; at church&#8221;, can&#8217;t we share excitement about the hope, grace, and peace that Jesus is offering us?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Deep in our exhausted hearts, we have a thirst for forgiveness, purpose, and hope.\u00a0 People come to church because they want to be refreshed.\u00a0 They need hope.\u00a0 They need to hear about eternal life.\u00a0 When we are with our closest friends, or when we encounter people who may be our own &#8220;Samaritans&#8221;
