If you&#8217;d like to join in the display, contact the<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?page_id=619\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> church office<\/a><\/span> for more info.<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Why?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Sometimes churches are seen as an island of &#8220;religious people&#8221; who stick to themselves and attend their &#8220;private party&#8221; every Sunday morning.\u00a0 Sometimes churches don&#8217;t go beyond their walls.\u00a0 But we don&#8217;t see PUMC in that way!\u00a0 A church is an integral part of the<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-8300\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Family-Vacation-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"152\" height=\"114\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Family-Vacation-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Family-Vacation.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 152px) 100vw, 152px\" \/> community.\u00a0 It&#8217;s part of the town&#8217;s history and culture.\u00a0 A church should be a group of people who are involved in the community and wants to work together with its neighbors to make the community a better place to live.\u00a0 God calls everyone to help others in any way possible.<\/p>\n<p>One of the most important things going on in any community is the nurturing of our children. Outings like Trunk and Treat give families the chance to do something together.\u00a0 They not only provide memories and photos, they provide moments- moments of laughter, sharing, and bonding.\u00a0 This foundation of love is so important to all of us.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So PUMC is throwing a party!\u00a0 We&#8217;re celebrating families, and we&#8217;re celebrate All Saints Day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">What&#8217;s Halloween???<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>So why would a church want to engage in a &#8220;worldly&#8221; event like <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.christianity.com\/church\/church-history\/all-saints-day-november-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Halloween<\/a><\/span>???\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Put simply, God has given us a lot of reasons to celebrate, and we&#8217;re in the habit of sharing with our neighbors.\u00a0 So we wanted to invite everyone over for a party!<\/p>\n<p>Halloween is also called &#8220;Hallows Eve.&#8221;\u00a0 It is the night before November 1, and November 1 is the traditional celebration of &#8220;All Saints Day.&#8221;\u00a0 Actually, Halloween began as a Christian celebration!\u00a0 Click the below button to learn more about Halloween and &#8220;All Saints Day&#8221;.\u00a0 It is a celebration!<\/p>\n<a href='https:\/\/www.christianity.com\/church\/church-history\/all-saints-day-november-1.html' class='icon-button download-icon' target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> Halloween<\/span><span class='et-icon'><\/span><\/a>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>When a loved one dies, we miss them.\u00a0 It hurts.\u00a0 When we think of our own death it&#8217;s scary.\u00a0 But God has relieved us of that pain and fear.\u00a0 If we allow God to join us to Jesus, we will have the assurance that we&#8217;ll live forever in heaven.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll see our loved ones again, and it will be great!\u00a0 Because Jesus rose from the dead, we don&#8217;t have to fear death anymore&#8230; if we take God up on His offer.<\/p>\n<p>For those who have taken God up on His offer of joining with Christ, there is a lot of reason to celebrate. God has promised that we will be reunited with those who have &#8220;gone before us&#8221;, and that gives us a lot of hope.\u00a0 Here are a few things that give us that hope (<em><span style=\"color: #0000ff; font-size: 10pt;\">just like unwrapping Halloween candy, click\/tap each of these &#8220;drop down&#8221; boxes to reveal a new treasure<\/span><\/em>):<\/p>\n<div class='et-learn-more clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class='heading-more'>Party in the Air!<span class='et_learnmore_arrow'><span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='learn-more-content'><p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The apostle Paul wrote&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no hope.\u00a0 For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5434 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/globe-329567_640-300x212.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"201\" height=\"142\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/globe-329567_640-300x212.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/globe-329567_640.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 201px) 100vw, 201px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">We tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not meet him ahead of those who have died.\u00a0 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves.\u00a0 Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever.\u00a0 <span style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\">So encourage each other with these words<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span> <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+thes+4%3A13-18&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">(1Thessalonians 4:13-18<\/a><\/span>)\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div> <div class='et-learn-more clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class='heading-more'>Raised in Glory!<span class='et_learnmore_arrow'><span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='learn-more-content'><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The apostle Paul wrote&#8230;<\/span><\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">It is the same way with the resurrection of the dead. Our earthly bodies are planted in the ground when we die, but they will be raised to live forever. Our bodies are buried in brokenness, but they will be raised in glory. They are buried in weakness, but they will be raised in strength.\u00a0 <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-27185 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Sunflower-Closeup-_IMG_3427-_400x300-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"151\" height=\"113\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Sunflower-Closeup-_IMG_3427-_400x300-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Sunflower-Closeup-_IMG_3427-_400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 151px) 100vw, 151px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0But let me reveal to you a wonderful secret. We will not all die, but we will all be transformed!\u00a0 It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown. For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever. And we who are living will also be transformed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Then, when our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled:\u00a0 \u201cDeath is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory?\u00a0 \u00a0 O death, where is your sting?\u201d<\/span>\u00a0 (from<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+cor+15%3A12-58&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00a01 Corinthians\u00a015<\/a><\/span>)\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div> <div class='et-learn-more clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class='heading-more'>The Voice of Life!<span class='et_learnmore_arrow'><span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='learn-more-content'><p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Jesus will call us to Life&#8230;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Jesus said:\u00a0 \u00a0\u201c<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they <span style=\"background-color: #ccffff;\">have already passed from death into life<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u201cAnd I assure you that the time is coming, indeed it\u2019s here now, when the dead will hear my voice\u2014the voice of the Son of God. And those who listen will live.\u00a0 The Father has life in himself, and he has granted that same life-giving power to his Son.\u00a0 And he has given him authority to judge everyone because he is the Son of Man. Don\u2019t be so surprised! Indeed, the time is coming when all the dead in their graves will hear the voice of God\u2019s Son, and they will rise again. Those who have done good will rise to experience eternal life, and those who have continued in evil will rise to experience judgment.&#8221;<\/span>\u00a0 (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=jn+5%3A24-29&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John 5:24-29<\/a><\/span>)\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div> <div class='et-learn-more clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class='heading-more'>A Place for Us!<span class='et_learnmore_arrow'><span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='learn-more-content'><p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>Jesus promised that He&#8217;s getting things ready for us&#8230;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201c<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Don\u2019t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father\u2019s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am.<\/span> <\/span>&#8221; (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+14%3A1-3&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John\u00a014:1-3<\/a><\/span>)\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div> <div class='et-learn-more clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class='heading-more'>An Eternal Companion!<span class='et_learnmore_arrow'><span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='learn-more-content'><p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Jesus is praying for us&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message.\u00a0 I pray <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-6085\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/ChapelWin-Good-Shepherd-_DCP_7051xCropSheep-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"207\" height=\"155\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/ChapelWin-Good-Shepherd-_DCP_7051xCropSheep-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/ChapelWin-Good-Shepherd-_DCP_7051xCropSheep.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 207px) 100vw, 207px\" \/>that they will all be one, just as you and I are one\u2014as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0\u201cI have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one.\u00a0 I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me.\u00a0 Father, I want these whom you have given me to be with me where I am. Then they can see all the glory you gave me because you loved me even before the world began!<\/span>&#8221; (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+17%3A20-26&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John\u00a017:22-24<\/a><\/span>)\u00a0<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div> <div class='et-learn-more clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class='heading-more'>No More Tears or Death!<span class='et_learnmore_arrow'><span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='learn-more-content'><p class=\"first-line-none chapter-2\"><span class=\"text Rev-21-1\">Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone.<\/span> <span id=\"en-NLT-31018\" class=\"text Rev-21-2\"><sup class=\"versenum\">\u00a0<\/sup>And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"en-NLT-31019\" class=\"text Rev-21-3\">I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, \u201c<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Look, God\u2019s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. <\/span><\/span><span id=\"en-NLT-31020\" class=\"text Rev-21-4\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><sup class=\"versenum\">\u00a0<\/sup>He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.<\/span>\u201d (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=rev+21&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Revelation 21:1-4<\/a><\/span>)<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\">~~~~~<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Especially at this time of the year, one of the hymns that we frequently sing is called &#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hymnsite.com\/lyrics\/umh711.sht\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">For All the Saints<\/a>.<\/span>&#8221;\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Methodists believe that the word &#8220;Saint&#8221; includes anyone who accepts Jesus and wants to be connected with Him&#8230;. it&#8217;s not limited to great people who do miraculous things.\u00a0 All of these &#8220;saints&#8221;- our loved ones, our teachers, our parents, our pastors&#8230; or anyone who quietly served and inspired us are shining in glory right now.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This hymn has 6 verses in our hymnal, but verse 4 helps explain why we celebrate &#8220;All Saints Day&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">\u00a0O blest communion, fellowship divine!\u00a0 We feebly struggle, they in glory shine;\u00a0 yet all are one in thee, for all are thine.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Communion- we are one with all who have lived for God.\u00a0 We are one with Jesus.\u00a0 \u00a0Now that&#8217;s something to celebrate!\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As you stroll through the lines of decorated cars, enjoy the fresh cool air.\u00a0 Enjoy the laughter of your children and the smiles of the crowd.\u00a0 Connect with neighbors you haven&#8217;t seen in a while.\u00a0 Marvel at the creativity of those who turned their car&#8217;s trunk into a different world.\u00a0 Enjoy the lights.\u00a0 And enjoy the candy!\u00a0 But even more so, remember that God wants to spend eternity with us.\u00a0 Death is not the end.\u00a0 One day, Jesus will welcome us into heaven, and we&#8217;ll celebrate the company of those who have gone before us.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Happy All Saints Day!<\/span><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #008000; font-size: 18pt;\">+\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0+\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0+\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0+\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0+\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0+<\/span><\/p>\n<p>For other ways PUMC is connecting with our neighbors, click this button:\u00a0 \u00a0 <a href='https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?cat=182' class='small-button smallgreen'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Neighbors<\/span><\/a> \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 2023 Trunk or Treat will be held on Saturday, October 28 (6-8 PM).
