Is there anyone we can depend on?\u00a0 Is there anyone who will have your back no matter what?<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Lamentations&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Jerusalem had just been attacked, plundered, and destroyed (586 BC).\u00a0 Most of its citizens were marched off into exile.\u00a0 It was Jerusalem&#8217;s &#8220;9\/11&#8243;&#8230; only worse.\u00a0 The prophet Jeremiah wrote the book of Lamentations while watching the smoldering embers of\u00a0 what was left of the city.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;book&#8221; is actually a collection of five Eulogies.\u00a0 Each of these five is constructed as an acrostic poem, with each verse beginning with successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet.\u00a0 There are 22 letters in the Hebrew alphabet and 66 verses in chapter 3, so the verses can be grouped into triplets which form a common theme.<\/p>\n<p>The word Lament comes from a Hebrew word meaning, &#8220;How?&#8221;, &#8220;Alas!&#8221;, or &#8220;O.&#8221;\u00a0 A Prayer of lament is not afraid to cry out to God expressing our fear and worry.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #800000;\">But there IS Hope!<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>In verses 17-18 Jeremiah expresses his feelings that peace and hope have been stripped away.\u00a0 Through his human eyes, the is no hope, peace, or prosperity.\u00a0 No Wawas.\u00a0 No Taco Bell.\u00a0 No gas stations.\u00a0 Nothing.\u00a0 No future; everything is gone.\u00a0 Like the Israelites standing before Goliath in fear,\u00a0 there is no hope of defeating this huge enemy.<\/p>\n<p>Calamity will happen in life.\u00a0 But we have a choice on how to respond.<\/p>\n<p>In verse 21 he says that he dares to hope&#8230; when he shifts his perspective to God.\u00a0 Despite the turmoil, Jeremiah makes the conscious decision to ignore his eyes and feelings and instead trust in God.\u00a0 In God there IS hope.\u00a0 Young David put his hope in God.\u00a0 He refused to use Saul&#8217;s armor and in effect to depend on man&#8217;s strength in this battle.\u00a0 He broke away from the Israelite pity party and stepped into a different comfort zone.\u00a0 In God, there is always hope,\u00a0 but we must intentionally seek God and &#8220;dare to trust Him&#8221; in order to experience this hope.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\">\u00a01:\u00a0 We are an Adopted Child&#8230;<br \/>\n<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>God&#8217;s faithfulness to us is tied to the fact that He has &#8220;adopted&#8221; us has His children.\u00a0 Because of the sacrifice of Jesus we are &#8220;joint heirs of Christ&#8221; (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=galatians+4&amp;version=NRSV\" target=\"_blank\">Galatians 4:7<\/a><\/span>).\u00a0 Because we are members of God&#8217;s family, God will remain with us.\u00a0 Even if we keep wandering away,God will wait for us to return to Him (remember the father in the parable of the prodigal son, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=luke+15&amp;version=NRSV\" target=\"_blank\">Luke 15:22<\/a><\/span>).<\/p>\n<p>God is always there; He can&#8217;t help but be faithful!\u00a0 When Moses was at the burning bush debating with God about the &#8220;impossible&#8221; job of getting Pharoah to free the Hebrew slaves, he asked God, &#8220;What if they ask me who sent me?\u00a0\u00a0 What name do I give them?&#8221;\u00a0 And God replied, &#8220;I AM that I AM.&#8221; (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=exodus+3&amp;version=NRSV\" target=\"_blank\">Exodus 3:13-14<\/a><\/span>).\u00a0 The literal translation of this word means &#8220;I will be there.&#8221;\u00a0 In other words, God is the &#8220;great I AM.&#8221; Wherever you are, He&#8217;s already there.\u00a0 God will always be with His children; no conditions.<\/p>\n<p>And God doesn&#8217;t change.\u00a0 The promises made to Moses go for us too.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Job+23%3A13&amp;version=NRSV\" target=\"_blank\">Job 23:13<\/a><\/span> &#8211;\u00a0 No one can change God&#8217;s mind.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Malachi+3%3A6-7&amp;version=NRSV\" target=\"_blank\">Malachi 3:6<\/a><\/span> &#8211; &#8220;I, the Lord, do not change.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=James+1%3A16-18&amp;version=NRSV\" target=\"_blank\">James 1:17<\/a><\/span> &#8211; The Father of Lights doesn&#8217;t change.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #800080;\"><em>&#8220;God is in time, On time,\u00a0 Everytime.&#8221;<\/em><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\">2:\u00a0 The Final Word Belongs to God&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>When Jesus hung on the cross, His final words were &#8220;It is finished!&#8221; \u00a0 Nothing is done until God says it&#8217;s done.\u00a0 There&#8217;s always more to the story and always more hope if we look to God.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing happens unless it goes through the filtered hand of God.<\/p>\n<p>God is always in control of things.\u00a0 Even when the waves whip around our little boats, Jesus is there and things are always under God&#8217;s control (see <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Luke+8%3A23-25&amp;version=NRSV\" target=\"_blank\">Luke 8:23-25<\/a><\/span>).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah+55%3A10-11&amp;version=NRSV\" target=\"_blank\">Isaiah 55:10-11<\/a><\/span> &#8211; &#8220;God&#8217;s word will not return empty.&#8221;<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Psalm+33&amp;version=NRSV\" target=\"_blank\">Psalm 33:4<\/a> <\/span>&#8211; We can take God at His word.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=numbers+23%3A18-24&amp;version=NRSV\" target=\"_blank\">Numbers 23:19<\/a> <\/span>&#8211; God isn&#8217;t like a human.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class='et-box et-warning'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If we truly believe that God is faithful, then we should be faithful to Him&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Did you read your Bible this week?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Did you invite anyone to church today?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Did you share your faith with anyone this week?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Our unfaithfulness brings about a disconnect.\u00a0 Like a trusting handshake, God offers us His hand.\u00a0 Will we shake His hand and make a commitment?\n<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\">3:\u00a0 God is Faithful to His People&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>One of Elvis&#8217; big hits was &#8220;Stuck on You.&#8221;\u00a0 In the song, Elvis&#8217; love couldn&#8217;t get away from him.\u00a0 Wherever she tried to hide, Elvis would be there.\u00a0 Through good times and bad, he&#8217;d remain &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.metrolyrics.com\/stuck-on-you-lyrics-elvis-presley.html\" target=\"_blank\">stuck on you<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Elvis may have been called &#8220;king,&#8221; but God is the true &#8220;King.&#8221;\u00a0 And just like velcro which seems to hang onto anything it comes in contact with, God is &#8220;Stuck on Us.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Because of God&#8217;s steadfast love, we are never cut off from him.\u00a0\u00a0 He just won&#8217;t go away.\u00a0 So what is it that we can face that he won&#8217;t be there for us?<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-info'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Before installing a cross in the early 1990&#8217;s, our old church building at the corner of Holly and Broadway had a weather vane on top of its <span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000080;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=830\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\">steeple<\/span><\/a><\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000080;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Charles_Spurgeon\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\">Charles Spurgeon<\/span><\/a><\/span> once saw a barn with a weather vane on its roof.\u00a0 Topping the weather vane was the message &#8220;God is Love.&#8221;\u00a0 He felt that this seemed to be an inappropriate place for this message.\u00a0 Weather vanes change with the wind, but God never changes.\u00a0 God&#8217;s love is constant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">But his traveling companion had a different interpretation.\u00a0 He said that the weather vane <strong>was<\/strong> an accurate symbol of God&#8217;s love because the vane worked regardless of where the wind was blowing.\u00a0 Regardless of the situation, God loves you so much that He is with us.\u00a0 Regardless of where the winds of life are blowing us, God is faithful.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<p>In good times and in bad, God is still with us.\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a title=\"Morning by Morning New Mercies I See\" href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=3247\" target=\"_blank\">Morning by Morning New Mercies I See<\/a>.<\/span>..<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">=============<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Jump into &#8220;Daddy&#8217;s&#8221;
