Armed conflict always catches innocent civilians in the crossfire.\u00a0 The war in Gambella (a region in western Ethiopia) is no exception.\u00a0 Clashes between separatists and the Ethiopian regime have escalated in the past few months, leaving many homeless and fearing for their lives.\u00a0 During an attack last month (June 2022), 37 people were killed.\u00a0 Among the dead were members of the Ethiopia United Methodist Church, including children.\u00a0 Many are still in hospital recovering from this attack.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR<\/a><\/span>) is organizing efforts to provide displaced people with food, hygiene kits, and other immediate needs.\u00a0 You can help.\u00a0 On Sunday July 31, PUMC will hold a special offering during the service.\u00a0 The offering will go to support UMCOR’s efforts in providing relief to the people in desperate need as a result of these ongoing attacks.<\/p>\n

WHAT<\/span><\/strong>: Offering to support relief efforts from ongoing conflicts in Ethiopia<\/span><\/p>\n

WHEN<\/span><\/strong>: During the service on Sunday July 31<\/span><\/p>\n

HOW:<\/span> <\/strong><\/p>\n

IN-PERSON<\/em>:<\/span><\/strong> \u00a0 For those attending the worship service in person, a special collection plate will be located at the back of the sanctuary.\u00a0 It will be labeled with a sign “UMCOR Ethiopia.”<\/span><\/p>\n

ONLINE<\/em><\/span><\/strong>:\u00a0 If you attend the service via Live Stream<\/a><\/span>, click a “Give” button to access the online giving site.\u00a0 Select the “UMCOR- Benevolence<\/strong>” fund from the eGiving site.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

MAIL<\/span><\/em>:<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 You can also mail a check to PUMC (write “UMCOR-Ethiopia” in the memo line and make the check payable to “Pitman United Methodist Church”).<\/span><\/p>\n
