{"id":30469,"date":"2022-07-03T14:07:18","date_gmt":"2022-07-03T18:07:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=30469"},"modified":"2022-08-17T10:31:16","modified_gmt":"2022-08-17T14:31:16","slug":"united-methodists-help-immigrants-june-2022","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=30469","title":{"rendered":"United Methodists Help Immigrants (June 2022)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Just the mere mention of the word\u00a0 &#8220;<\/span><\/em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Immigration<\/span><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">&#8221; stirs up a wide range of political divides.\u00a0 But regardless of the politics, families making their way from violent crime-ridden countries in Central America need the love of Jesus.\u00a0 As disciples of Christ, our mission is to reach out and &#8220;feed the hungry and clothe the naked,&#8221; regardless of how they arrived in their circumstances.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The drug cartels and rampant crime in countries such as Guatemala are driving families to seek a better life.\u00a0 That path leads them northward into Mexico and frequently into the USA.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">What are We (and Other Churches) Doing to Help?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>The United Methodist News Service recently published a report outlining what Methodists and other churches are doing to help the people caught in the desperate situation of a northward migration.\u00a0 As these families travel by foot over harsh terrain, they are exposed to the elements and need food, water, and clothing.\u00a0 In some cases, they even need medical care for babies who are born in the midst of this ordeal.<\/p>\n<p>The baby in this photo was born in Tapachula, Mexico as her family made its way north from El Salvador.\u00a0 The Rev.
