and you&#8217;ll get a lot of hits about &#8220;St. Joseph&#8221;, the earthly father of Jesus.\u00a0 You might also see something about Joseph of Arimathea, the New Testament follower who gave Jesus his tomb (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=jn+19%3A38-42&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">John\u00a019:38<\/a>).\u00a0 If you keep searching, you&#8217;ll get hits about &#8220;Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.&#8221;\u00a0 <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">But the life of this Old Testament character (see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=gen+37-50&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Genesis\u00a037-50<\/a>) went much deeper than the cliche &#8220;multi colored coat.&#8221;\u00a0 From being a favorite son and a hated brother, Joseph became a mistreated servant and a prisoner.\u00a0 But through God&#8217;s grace, he eventually became a ruler and savior of his people.<\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><em>What can we learn from the life of Joseph?\u00a0 Pastor Jim has prepared a series of sermons which will challenge and encourage us as we learn from Joseph.\u00a0 The sermon series will be presented during this summer (2022).<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Joseph&#8217;s Ups and Downs<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Joseph is a man who didn&#8217;t have an easy life.\u00a0 Joseph loved his father Jacob, and Joseph was Jacob&#8217;s favorite son.\u00a0 But Joseph&#8217;s brothers sold Joseph into slavery and led Jacob to believe that Joseph was dead.\u00a0 The father and his loving son were separated for many years.\u00a0 Wrongly accused of &#8220;making a pass&#8221; at his boss&#8217;s wife, Joseph spent much of his life in prison. <a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Joseph-prison-_400x300.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-30392\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Joseph-prison-_400x300-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Joseph-prison-_400x300-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Joseph-prison-_400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>But God used all of it for good.\u00a0 While in prison, Joseph explained an inmate&#8217;s dream, and that eventually led to his release and a summons to Pharaoh when Pharaoh needed to have a dream explained.\u00a0 A famine was coming.\u00a0 The &#8220;dreamer&#8217;s&#8221; ability to explain Pharaoh&#8217;s dream put him in charge of Egypt&#8217;s food supply.\u00a0 Pharaoh made Joseph the top ruler in Egypt (second only to Pharaoh himself).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In an ironic twist, Joseph&#8217;s brothers travel to Egypt to beg for food.\u00a0 They bow before the unrecognized brother that they had despised and sold as a slave.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But God used it all for good.\u00a0 God&#8217;s covenant with Abraham, His plan to raise up a nation through which the Messiah would come, and His ultimate plan of salvation were all being fulfilled.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Lessons from Joseph<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Starting on Sunday June 26 and continuing through August, Pastor Jim has prepared a collection of sermons on the life of Joseph.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Joseph&#8217;s life presents many parallels with Jesus:\u00a0 Loved by his Father, desiring to please His Father, despised by His brothers (the Jewish nation), imprisoned, wrongly accused.\u00a0 And yet, Jesus (and Joseph) remained faithful to God and their lives led to the salvation of many.\u00a0 Joseph saved his people from starvation.\u00a0 Jesus saved His people from sin.<a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Joseph-coat-thought-_400x300.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-30393\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Joseph-coat-thought-_400x300-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Joseph-coat-thought-_400x300-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/Joseph-coat-thought-_400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Joseph&#8217;s\u00a0 life tempted him in many ways.\u00a0 He could have carried a grunge against his brothers.\u00a0 He could have been angry at God, screaming &#8220;Why Me???&#8221;\u00a0 He endured a lot of dark times and many types of &#8220;prisons.&#8221;\u00a0 And yet, he kept his faith and continued to live for God.\u00a0 His patience was tried, but he endured and forgave.\u00a0 He was given awesome responsibilities, but he depended on God&#8217;s guidance and succeeded beyond his wildest dreams.<\/p>\n<p>God meant it for Good.<\/p>\n<p>When it was all over, Joseph declared to his brothers that &#8220;God meant it all for good.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #993366;\">You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good.
