The Christian Rural Overseas Program\u00a0 has been part of PUMC’s missional\u00a0 outreach for many years.\u00a0 Otherwise known as\u00a0 CROP, the CROP walk is a community event in which participants line up sponsors and walk the course to earn funds which are sent to CROP.\u00a0 CROP, which is sponsored by an organization known as Church\u00a0World\u00a0Service<\/span><\/a> has a variety of programs which fight world hunger.\u00a0 <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

This year, the local CROP tradition continues.\u00a0 A CROP walk has been organized by several churches in Pitman and Glassboro NJ, and it will be held in a local park. \u00a0 Many of the proceeds stay in our community to fund resources such as the Pitman Food Pantry.\u00a0 This year’s walk also supports Family Promise of Southwest NJ,\u00a0 Samaritan Center, Kitchen of Hope, and the Shoppe at Rowan.

Ending Hunger One Step at a Time<\/span><\/h3>\n

Each year friends and neighbors in some 2000 communities across America join locally organized interfaith CROP \"\"HUNGER WALKS that help support the work of Church\u00a0 World Service, locally and throughout the world.<\/span>
\nChurch World Service is a cooperative ministry that provides sustainable self-help and development, disaster relief and refugee assistance in more than 80 countries.\u00a0 CROP HUNGER WALKS return a percentage of the funds raised\u00a0 to local food pantries.<\/span><\/p>\n

A loving belief that we should help our less fortunate neighbors is typical of CROP HUNGER WALKERS who are walking for one reason; to help those who are hurting and in need, wherever they are.\u00a0\u00a0 CROPWALKERS do make a difference; they feed the hungry, give aid to uprooted people, and stock local food pantries.<\/span><\/p>\n

Walking in Pitman \/ Glassboro<\/span><\/h3>\n

The PITMAN\/GLASSBORO CROP HUNGER WALK will be held on Sunday October 17th, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the New St. Park in Glassboro\u00a0 (adjacent to the Bullock Elementary School).\u00a0 Walk,\u00a0 or sponsor a walker.\u00a0 Stay as long as you wish (the Walk ends at 4:00 PM).<\/span><\/p>\n

New St. Park has flat easy trails. Benches and restrooms are available. Bring your children\/grandchildren for some fun exercise, and help the food insecure at the same time.\u00a0 When you arrive, check in at the pavilion.<\/span><\/p>\n

What’s in a Name???<\/span><\/em><\/h4>\n

“CROP” recently made a (long overdue?) change to their name.<\/span><\/p>\n

For years,\u00a0 “CROP” stood for “Christian Rural Overseas Program”.<\/span><\/p>\n

Recently (in 2021) they redefined CROP to stand for “C<\/strong>ommunities\u00a0 R<\/strong>esponding to\u00a0\u00a0 O<\/strong>vercome\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 P<\/strong>overty”<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/p>\n
