{"id":27180,"date":"2021-03-25T12:15:30","date_gmt":"2021-03-25T16:15:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=27180"},"modified":"2021-05-29T10:36:11","modified_gmt":"2021-05-29T14:36:11","slug":"pastors-ponderings-regardless-of-the-storm-look-for-the-rainbow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=27180","title":{"rendered":"Pastor&#8217;s Ponderings: Regardless of the Storm, Look for the Rainbow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">During the &#8220;Storm&#8221; of this pandemic, we longingly wait for the time when things can return to &#8220;normal.&#8221;\u00a0 A time when we can gather together, worship together, and even share meals together.\u00a0 But even without coronavirus and Covid-19, life still makes us endure &#8220;storms&#8221; of many types:\u00a0 cancer diagnosis, loss of property, financial difficulties, loss of friends, and even death and grief.\u00a0 <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">In this devotional, Pastor Jim shares some thoughts on how we can survive &#8220;storms&#8221; and even grow from them&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #003366;\">PLEASE READ<\/span><\/strong>:\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Genesis+9%3A12-17&amp;version=NET\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Genesis 9:12-17<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">And God said, \u201cThis is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-23655 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Tile-02ArkRainbow-_IMG_3931-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"212\" height=\"159\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Tile-02ArkRainbow-_IMG_3931-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Tile-02ArkRainbow-_IMG_3931.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 212px) 100vw, 212px\" \/>generations to come:\u00a0I have set my rainbow\u00a0in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds,\u00a0I will remember my covenant\u00a0between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.\u00a0Whenever the rainbow\u00a0appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant\u00a0between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #993366;\">So God said to Noah, \u201cThis is the sign of the covenant\u00a0I have established between me and all life on the earth.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Storms&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h4>\n<p>We are all too aware that &#8220;storms&#8221; come to us in a variety of ways as we journey through life. As God&#8217;s people we are not immune to these storms. However, when storms do come we have promises from God which we depend on, even lean upon, which provides us with hope. As we reflect upon the Scripture cited above, I feel led to share a story from my childhood which I trust will give us hope, regardless of the storm we are currently facing or may be facing as we journey through life.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #003366; font-size: 14pt;\">As a small boy when our family was living in Florida,\u00a0one particular day began bright and sunny, but muggy and uncomfortable which is quite understandable for Florida. The meteorologist\u00a0on TV predicted the possibility of thunderstorms, but when\u00a0you looked outside, it was hard to believe it would actually happen.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-27187 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Sunset-Sky-_IMG_3403-_400x300-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"174\" height=\"131\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Sunset-Sky-_IMG_3403-_400x300-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Sunset-Sky-_IMG_3403-_400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 174px) 100vw, 174px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366; font-size: 14pt;\">However, around 3:00 in the afternoon things began to change quickly and dramatically. The air was so humid and as I looked at the sky in the West it was turning stormy and menacing. Huge storm clouds were rolling in and soon the sun was totally blocked out by the approaching storm. I remember thinking how fearful I was becoming as I was looking at the sky and as the wind began gusting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366; font-size: 14pt;\">Suddenly, there were loud claps of thunder and flashes of lightning as the clouds burst and huge drops of rain began to fall. Lightening flashed through the South Florida skies and the house seemed to vibrate with each crash of thunder. The rain was so heavy you couldn\u2019t see across the field of orange trees to\u00a0the road.\u00a0After a few moments there was a loud &#8220;crack&#8221; and the power\u00a0to the house went off.\u00a0We sat without electricity waiting for the storm to pass over.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-8713 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Rainbow-over-Steeple_300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"174\" height=\"174\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Rainbow-over-Steeple_300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Rainbow-over-Steeple_300x300-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Rainbow-over-Steeple_300x300-178x178.jpg 178w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Rainbow-over-Steeple_300x300-184x184.jpg 184w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 174px) 100vw, 174px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366; font-size: 14pt;\">Little by little the flashes of lightening stopped, the loud booms of thunder were barely audible and the rain began to let up. After a few more minutes the clouds starting parting and the sun came out, its rays glistening in the light rain that still fell.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003366; font-size: 14pt;\">My Dad said, &#8220;Look! Over the other side of the yard. Do you see it?&#8221; As I looked, there in the sky hung a rainbow. We went outside standing in the drizzle to see it better. As we watched the rainbow its colors became brighter and brighter. It was a beautiful sight!\u00a0 My Dad said, &#8220;It&#8217;s just like what Noah saw right after the flood.\u00a0 God kept His promise to Noah and He has kept it to us&#8221;!\u00a0 I recall a sense of well being flooding over me. Even in my young mind I was confident that everything was going to be alright now. We had God\u2019s promise, the storm was coming to an end, we were fine, and the rainbow was the reminder.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<h4>\n<span style=\"color: #008000;\"><em>Rainbows&#8230;<\/em><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>You probably have a similar story tucked away somewhere in your memories which you could tell. To this day I look for a rainbow whenever it is raining and the sun is shining. There is a sense of comfort just seeing it. After the storm passes, there it is, that beautiful arch across the sky. It seems to have no beginning, no end, just like God&#8217;s promises. The rainbow just hangs beautiful and silent, yet it&#8217;s message screams loudly that God is faithful and God always keeps His promises!<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nFriends, like it was for Noah, as it was for me as a boy in Florida, just like it is for you today, the rainbow will forever be a sign of hope.\u00a0The rainbow is a promise, a reminder of God&#8217;s promises\u00a0to humanity.\u00a0 Promises which will never be broken, promises which will last forever!
