In June of 2020 we’re still living in a time demanding social distancing, live streaming, and the reality of a deadly pandemic which has turned life upside down.\u00a0 Pastor Jim wrote the following devotional to remind us that our God Loves us and even delights in us.\u00a0 God has already overcome these unsettling times, and He will carry us through this pandemic.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

John 16:33<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cI have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.<\/span>\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

1 John 4:4<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/strong> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world<\/span>.<\/span>“<\/span><\/p>\n

Joshua 1:9<\/span><\/span><\/strong> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.<\/span>“<\/span><\/p>\n

The pandemic has presented us with days, weeks, and months which have been filled with uncertainty, fear, and a sense that we are seemingly not in control. Going through such extended periods of time often tempt us to become fearful, impatient, and want to react rather respond to the situations of life. It’s good to be reminded that we have a God who loves us, walks with us and even carries us through tough \"\"times. God reminds us to be patient and trust Him in each and every situation. Scripture like the verses suggested above or even Romans\u00a08:28<\/a><\/span> provide us with much needed empowerment for the facing of each moment.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

In addition, many Saints of the past have left us many writings which can empower us so that we can gain strength for each and every moment. One such Saint comes from the late 14th Century.<\/span><\/p>\n

Julian of Norwich<\/a><\/span> (1342 – 1416) was a great 14th century Christian whose writings still inspire God’s people today.\u00a0 While much of Julian’s life remains a mystery, many of her writings still remain with us.\u00a0 Her writings offered Christian discipline and instruction for living a Godly life.\u00a0 This brief offering below is a word of hope from her collection of writings.<\/span><\/p>\n

“And these words: You will not be overcome, were said very insistently and strongly, for certainty and strength against every tribulation which may come.\u00a0 God<\/em> did not say: You will not be assailed, you will not be belabored, you will not be disquieted, but God<\/em> said: You will not be overcome<\/span>.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

God wants us to pay attention to his words, and always to be strong in our certainty, in well-being and in woe, for God<\/em> loves<\/em> us and delights in us” (italics added).<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Amen to Julian’s words.\u00a0 In every situation she tells us that God “loves us and delights in us.”<\/span>\u00a0 Let’s remember God’s promises, trusting them, and may we be encouraged on our journey.<\/span>
