It’s April of 2020, and the wave of the Covid-19 virus has taken over our lives.\u00a0 In the midst of this pandemic, our building is closed, we’re “hunkering down” in our homes, and we’re practicing “social distancing” when we do venture outside.\u00a0 For many, that could mean that we loose contact with friends\u00a0 and miss out on the support they offer.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The writer to Hebrews reminded us that Christians weren’t built to do things on their own:<\/p>\n

\n

\nLet us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another \u2014 and all the more as you see the Day approaching.<\/span> NIV<\/p>\n

Hebrews 10:25<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

We all need each other, and that\u00a0 goes for the Youth too.<\/p>\n

PUMC Youth Group<\/span><\/h3>\n

In normal times, we meet in the church on Sunday nights.\u00a0 We open our Bibles and our hearts.\u00a0 We pray together, study \"\"together, encourage one another.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Back when things were still “normal,” we were playing games, eating refreshments, and studying the Bible together.\u00a0<\/p>\n

But in this “new reality” of “Social Distancing”, the church is closed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

We can’t get together anymore…. or can we???<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Virtual Friends are Still Real!<\/span><\/h4>\n

We don’t want to “give up meeting together,” so we’re using technology and “meeting\u00a0 together” in a different way.\"\"<\/p>\n

Since the shutdown we’ve taken to the Internet and have been meeting together using Zoom.\u00a0 We’ve been playing virtual games using Jackbox.tv.\u00a0 We might all have to stay at home, but we’re still supporting each other.\u00a0 We just wrapped up a study on Prayer, and now we’ve moved into a study of the book of Hebrews (in addition to all of the fun games).<\/p>\n

It’s not the same as\u00a0 being together in person, but it’s something to look forward to each week.\u00a0 Even though our friends show up as “Brady Bunch” squares on a computer screen,\u00a0 they are still friends.\u00a0 We still listen to each other, pray for each other, and encourage each other.\u00a0 Isn’t that what real friends do anyway?<\/p>\n

Open Arms<\/span><\/h4>\n

Another thing that real friends do is to welcome anyone to the group.\u00a0 The\u00a0 “virtual room” we’re using is really big!\u00a0 You don’t have to arrive early to get the best couch (or beanbag chair!). \u00a0 All youth are invited into our “virtual meeting” and fellowship of real friends.<\/p>\n

Who<\/span><\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Anyone in grades 6-12\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Where<\/span><\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0 Wherever you want your computer or phone to be.<\/span><\/p>\n

How?<\/span><\/strong>:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 We’re meeting on Zoom (video or voice only….).\u00a0 <\/span>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n
