{"id":23151,"date":"2020-01-11T19:22:30","date_gmt":"2020-01-12T00:22:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=23151"},"modified":"2020-01-11T20:44:22","modified_gmt":"2020-01-12T01:44:22","slug":"methodists-remain-united-in-mission-for-christ","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=23151","title":{"rendered":"Methodists Remain United in Mission for Christ!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A proposal providing financial accommodations for churches which wish to part from the United Methodist Church has recently been reported in the media.\u00a0 As the denomination strives to find a path forward with the issues of LGBTQ marriage and ordination, many ideas are being formulated across the denomination.\u00a0 Some of these ideas will be proposed as legislation during the upcoming General Conference meeting, which will be held in May of 2020.\u00a0 The General Conference is a world-wide governing body which meets once every four years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Recent reports in the media have been sounding alarms, using terms such as &#8220;Pending Church Split.&#8221;\u00a0 But the proposal that is causing so much buzz in the media is only one of many proposals.\u00a0 It is entitled &#8220;Protocol of Reconciliation and Grace through Separation,&#8221; (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gnjumc.org\/2020-general-conference\/protocol-of-reconciliation-and-grace-through-separation\/?utm_source=2019+Conference+Wide+with+Digest+12.11&amp;utm_campaign=8eb258bc91-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2020_01_03_05_00_COPY_01&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_6968280aa8-8eb258bc91-198301073\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Read Here<\/a><\/span>) and it&#8217;s far from &#8220;Pending.&#8221;\u00a0 Currently, it doesn&#8217;t have the legal standing to even be submitted to the General Conference.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-19960\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Academy18-Bishop-Schol-_IMG_1459-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"164\" height=\"123\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Academy18-Bishop-Schol-_IMG_1459-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/Academy18-Bishop-Schol-_IMG_1459.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 164px) 100vw, 164px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">To answer concerns about this particular proposal,\u00a0 the bishop of the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference (which covers all of New Jersey and parts of Pennsylvania and New York),\u00a0 held a series of telephone conferences with clergy and laity.\u00a0 During the call, Bishop John Schol addressed a series &#8220;Frequently Asked Questions&#8221;
