Sunday October 20 will be a “Walk in the Park!”\u00a0 By enlisting some sponsors, donating some peanut butter, and taking an afternoon walk, you can help feed some needy people.\"\"<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Grab your walking shoes and take a walk in the park!\u00a0 The annual Pitman-Glassboro CROP Walk will be on October 20, starting at 1:00 PM.\u00a0 The Walk raises funds for programs organized by Church World\u00a0Service<\/a><\/span>.\u00a0 You’ll also have the chance to donate some jars of Peanut Butter.\u00a0 This will go to our local pantry.<\/p>\n

What is CROP???<\/span><\/h3>\n

When CROP began in 1947 (under the wing of Church World Service, which was founded in 1946), CROP was an acronym \"\"for the C<\/strong>hristian R<\/strong>ural O<\/strong>verseas P<\/strong>rogram.\u00a0 Its primary mission was to help Midwest farm families to share their grain with hungry neighbors in post World War II Europe and Asia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Today, the program has outgrown the acronym, the the historic name of the program is retained.<\/span><\/p>\n

DROP Hunger Walks are interfaith hunger education and fundraising events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by CDS’s local offices across the United States.\u00a0 Food pantries in the Pitman-Glassboro area are recipients of much of the money raised by this local walk.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A CROP Walk has been held in Pitman (and then in unison with Glassboro) for many years.\u00a0 This is a cross denominational effort; several churches from both towns take part.<\/p>\n

New Location!<\/span><\/h3>\n

This year, the annual CROP Walk will be held at the New Street\u00a0Park<\/a><\/span> (down the street from Bullock School, in Glassboro).\u00a0 \"\"In years past, we’ve walked a route that winds through Pitman and Glassboro, but this time we’re going to keep it in the New Street Park.<\/p>\n

The park has a playground for the young ones and a dog park for your furry friends. It also has some nice pedestrian friendly paths.<\/p>\n
