Jeff Crispin brought the message to the Camp Meeting service on 8\/18\/19, and his family helped bring the music.\u00a0 But God&#8217;s gift of grace through His Son over-arched and under-girded all of the preaching and musical talents this human family.\u00a0 The music and the sermon took us to a story of Jesus&#8217; beauty: an amazing story of how God removed the barrier of sin and how He longs to be in fellowship with all of us.\u00a0 As the ukulele trio sang, &#8220;My Worth is not in what I own,&#8221;\u00a0 our purpose for life is not in what we do, but in the God who created us.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Music<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Jeff&#8217;s wife, Carol, led the hymn sing with her keyboard.\u00a0 We always open with &#8220;In the Garden&#8221; (written by C. Austin Miles, a Pitman resident), and then we sing favorites requested by the congregation.<\/p>\n<p>After the hymsing, a ukulele trio from Jeff&#8217;s church\u00a0 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.joycf.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joy Community Fellowship)<\/a> drew us into the message with their music and tight harmonies.\u00a0 They introduced the sermon with the song, &#8220;<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gettymusic.com\/my-worth-is-not-in-what-i-own\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">My Worth is Not in What I\u00a0Own<\/a><\/span>.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\t\t<div class='author-shortcodes'>\n\t\t\t<div class='author-inner'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='author-image'>\n\t\t\t<img src='https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/et_temp\/Sunset-Cross_BeHappy-_400x300-18345_60x60.jpg' alt='' \/>\n\t\t\t<div class='author-overlay'><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div> <!-- .author-image --> \n\t\t<div class='author-info'>\n\t\t\t<em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">I will not boast in wealth or might, Or human wisdom\u2019s fleeting light.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">But I will boast in knowing Christ at the cross.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #008000;\"> My worth is not in skill or name, In win or lose, in pride or shame.\u00a0 But in the blood of Christ that flowed.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #008000;\">I rejoice in my Redeemer.\u00a0 Greatest Treasure, Wellspring of my soul. I will trust in Him, no other. Jeff Crispin brims over with enthusiasm for the Word and a love for Jesus.\u00a0 He can&#8217;t be &#8220;penned in&#8221; behind the railing <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-21945\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/CMP19-08-18-Jeff-Crispin-_IMG_2774-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"205\" height=\"154\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/CMP19-08-18-Jeff-Crispin-_IMG_2774-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/CMP19-08-18-Jeff-Crispin-_IMG_2774.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 205px) 100vw, 205px\" \/>that lines the auditorium&#8217;s chancel, nor can he be trapped by a microphone.\u00a0 Jeff lives, breathes, and moves by the Word of God.\u00a0 And so he choose to speak from &#8220;ground level&#8221;, in the center aisle of the auditorium.<\/p>\n<p>Jeff has served as a United Methodist pastor and he is now serving as one of the pastors in his church (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.joycf.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joy\u00a0Community\u00a0Fellowship<\/a><\/span>).\u00a0\u00a0 He is also a physical therapist in town.\u00a0 He is constantly meeting new people and nourishing trusting relationships with people in all walks of life.\u00a0 And beyond that, he is a loving father and devoted husband.<\/p>\n<p>But his most important relationship is with Jesus.\u00a0 This divine Son of God who restores our sinful relationship with our righteous Creator.\u00a0\u00a0 Without Jesus in our lives, and without the Holy Spirit who gives us life and breath, we can do nothing.<\/p>\n<p>And tonight, like the many times he has spoken, Jeff&#8217;s message was about that awesome beautiful Savior and His amazing grace.\u00a0 The scripture was from Luke 7:36-50.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Click the following Drop Down box to read the passage&#8230;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<div class='et-learn-more clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class='heading-more'>Luke 7:36-50<span class='et_learnmore_arrow'><span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='learn-more-content'>36 Then one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him. And He went to the Pharisee&#8217;s house, and sat down to eat.<\/p>\n<p>37 And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee&#8217;s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil,<\/p>\n<p>38 and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil.<\/p>\n<p>39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying, &#8220;This Man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>40 And Jesus answered and said to him, &#8220;Simon, I have something to say to you.&#8221; So he said, &#8220;Teacher, say it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>41 &#8220;There was a certain creditor who had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.<\/p>\n<p>42 And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell Me, therefore, which of them will love him more?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>43 Simon answered and said, &#8220;I suppose the one whom he forgave more.&#8221; And He said to him, &#8220;You have rightly judged.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>44 Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, &#8220;Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head.<\/p>\n<p>45 You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in.<\/p>\n<p>46 You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil.<\/p>\n<p>47 Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>48 Then He said to her, &#8220;Your sins are forgiven.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>49 And those who sat at the table with Him began to say to themselves, &#8220;Who is this who even forgives sins?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>50 Then He said to the woman, &#8220;Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">NKJV<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">An Amazing Story<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>This passage tells a real story with real people.\u00a0 You can put yourself into it.\u00a0 The Pharisees were the super religious &#8220;church people&#8221; of the day.\u00a0 They saw Jesus as this radical who was upsetting all norms and threatening to take away their influence.\u00a0 And so <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-21957\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/CMP19-08-18-Jeff-Crispin-_IMG_2773-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/CMP19-08-18-Jeff-Crispin-_IMG_2773-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/CMP19-08-18-Jeff-Crispin-_IMG_2773.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>they wanted to trap Jesus.\u00a0 They invite Him to this party, and in wanders this &#8220;sinful women&#8221; (probably an adulteress).\u00a0 Everyone in town knows that the woman who wandered into the courtyard of this house was someone who should not be invited.<\/p>\n<p>But Jesus sees something else.\u00a0 He turns this story of sin and envy into one of amazing forgiveness.\u00a0 Jesus knows who this woman is.\u00a0 He knows who the Pharisees are too.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And so instead of rebuking her, Jesus lets this &#8220;sinner&#8221; wash His feet.\u00a0 He receives her worship and then He forgives her with a forgiveness that would cost Him His life.\u00a0 The irony in the story is that this &#8220;sinner&#8217; is the only one in the house (other than Jesus Himself) who is right with God.<\/p>\n<p>This story isn&#8217;t only a story of a prostitute or adulteress (or whatever her sin was).\u00a0 It&#8217;s THE story of human existence.\u00a0 It&#8217;s our story; the story of every human being who has ever lived.\u00a0 Just like the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Beauty_and_the_Beast_(1991_film)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Beauty and the Beast<\/a>,&#8221; THE story is all about redemption and grace.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>All of us fall short of where God wants us to be.\u00a0 None of us deserves a full relationship with our Creator.\u00a0 Just as this woman didn&#8217;t deserve to be in the presence of Jesus and the religious leaders at this dinner, our deeds haven&#8217;t earned us a seat at God&#8217;s table.\u00a0 And yet, Jesus lets us come to Him.\u00a0 All we have to do is to have faith and wander in.\u00a0 He hears our cries of repentance.\u00a0 He accepts our worship.\u00a0 And then He forgives us and removes the sin which disqualifies us from being with Him.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s an amazing story.\u00a0 It&#8217;s our story, and it happens every day.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">A Beautiful Savior<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Jesus isn&#8217;t simply a &#8220;great teacher&#8221; or a person to admire.\u00a0 The Son of God has an eternal greatness and power which make Him completely unique among all the people who have ever set foot on this earth.\u00a0 Jesus is beautiful.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Beauty in Power<\/span><\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Earlier in this chapter (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=luke+7%3A1-10&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luke 7:1-10<\/a><\/span>) Jesus heals a Roman Centurion&#8217;s servant.\u00a0 Jesus didn&#8217;t even see or touch this servant.\u00a0 From a distance, the Centurion made his request and from a distance Jesus healed the servant.\u00a0 In Jesus&#8217; beautiful power, He doesn&#8217;t even have to have a physical presence.\u00a0 Along the way, He comes upon a funeral procession (<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=luke+7%3A11-17&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Luke 7:11-17<\/a><\/span>).\u00a0 Instead of joining the mourners, he ends the funeral; by raising the corpse!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This chapter shows Jesus&#8217; power over the human body: over disease and even over death.\u00a0 But all of humanity&#8217;s problems, including disease and death,\u00a0 boil down to one key problem:\u00a0 Sin.\u00a0 There&#8217;s no medicine, no government, no religion that can solve this problem.\u00a0 And there&#8217;s nothing that can solve all of our other problems until the problem of Sin is solved.<\/p>\n<p>And Jesus is the only One who has the power to remove the problem of Sin from us.\u00a0 We see this in the final three verses of this passage:\u00a0<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Then He said to her, &#8220;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Your sins are forgiven.<\/span>&#8220;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">And those who sat at the table with Him began to say to themselves, &#8220;Who is this who even forgives sins?&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Then He said to the woman, &#8220;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.<\/span>&#8220;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Jesus uses His beautiful power to forgive this sin-sick woman and to restore her life.\u00a0 And that same beautiful power is available to all of us.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Beauty in Grace<\/span><\/strong>.\u00a0 Grace is defined as an unmerited favor.\u00a0 God&#8217;s grace is unlimited.\u00a0 No matter how messed up we are, God&#8217;s grace has the power to restore us to a full relationship with God.\u00a0 And we don&#8217;t have to do anything other than to believe.\u00a0 The woman in this story did nothing to earn Jesus&#8217; favor or forgiveness.\u00a0 She simply expressed her love.\u00a0 Those who are forgiven much love much.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The message for us is that Jesus came to forgive sins.\u00a0 He came to solve our number 1 problem: Sin.\u00a0 When we recognize how deeply we&#8217;ve been forgiven, we will turn to God in love.\u00a0 John Newton (who wrote the hymn &#8220;Amazing Grace&#8221;) was a big bad ugly slave trader.\u00a0 But he experienced the beauty of God&#8217;s grace; God&#8217;s Amazing Grace.\u00a0 Towards the end of his life, Newton summed up his life by saying &#8220;I&#8217;m a great sinner, but Jesus is a great savior.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">A Joyful Purpose<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>And so what&#8217;s it all mean?\u00a0 What&#8217;s the point of receiving forgiveness?\u00a0 What does grace do in our lives?\u00a0 Why are we here???\u00a0 Jesus took all of the laws and summed them up into one concise purpose for living.\u00a0 Our reason for living is summed up in Luke 10:27:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;&#8216;Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind&#8217;; and, &#8216;Love your neighbor as yourself.'&#8221;<\/span> <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">NIV<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>We are here to believe God&#8217;s message: Jesus came to forgive my sins so that I can be free to love much.\u00a0 To love God.\u00a0 To love others.\u00a0 And even to love myself.\u00a0 Faith allows us to take Jesus at His word.\u00a0 It allows us to submit to His will instead of our own ideas of what will make us happy.\u00a0 And when we do that, when we&#8217;re forgiven much, we&#8217;ll discover that our number 1 problem is removed and that we&#8217;re free to give and receive love.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-21958\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/CMP19-08-18-Jeff-Crispin-_IMG_2787-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/CMP19-08-18-Jeff-Crispin-_IMG_2787-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/CMP19-08-18-Jeff-Crispin-_IMG_2787.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Joy comes from living out the purpose that God created us for.\u00a0 God will pour so much stinkin&#8217; joy into our lives if we would just seek God and love Him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>We sing the song &#8220;And they&#8217;ll know we are Christians by our love&#8230;&#8221;\u00a0 People notice when God&#8217;s peace and love are in us.\u00a0 They don&#8217;t notice religion like the Pharisees had.\u00a0 What grabs the world&#8217;s attention is when someone demonstrates the love that comes when they&#8217;re forgiven.\u00a0 Like the woman in this story.\u00a0 Those who are forgiven much, love much.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This amazing story-\u00a0 this beautiful story-\u00a0 defines our purpose in life and gives us the path to true joy.\u00a0 Our purpose is to live out our version of that amazing story;
