{"id":21577,"date":"2019-07-13T10:11:32","date_gmt":"2019-07-13T14:11:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=21577"},"modified":"2019-09-10T08:44:14","modified_gmt":"2019-09-10T12:44:14","slug":"pumc-assembling-hygiene-kits-for-migrants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=21577","title":{"rendered":"PUMC Assembling Hygiene Kits for Migrants (July 2019)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The needs of people held in detention facilities is constantly before us, and the Church is reaching out on a human level to help them.\u00a0 Regardless of the politics regarding border security, the human need is desperate.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">UMCOR (The United Methodist Committee on Relief) is in the process of delivering Hygiene Kits to detainees who have been released to &#8220;Transitional Centers.&#8221;\u00a0 We are unable to provide help to those held in the detention centers that we&#8217;ve heard so much about, but we can help them once they reach the Transitional Centers.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><!--\n------------  ENABLE LATER?  -----------------\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>To learn more about the needs on our Southern Border, click on the below buttons to access articles from the United Methodist Church and UMCOR websites:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n[button link=\"http:\/\/www.umc.org\/what-we-believe\/border-crisis-resources-for-a-faithful-response\" type=\"icon\" icon=\"people\" newwindow=\"yes\"] <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Faithful Response<\/span>[\/button]\n\n\n\n\n[button link=\"http:\/\/www.umc.org\/what-we-believe\/how-united-methodists-can-help-immigrant-families\" type=\"icon\" icon=\"people\" newwindow=\"yes\"] <span style=\"color: #000000;\">How to Help<\/span>[\/button]\n\n\n\n\n[button link=\"https:\/\/www.umcmission.org\/umcor\/learn\/news-and-stories\/2019\/july\/a-call-to-action-for-united-methodists-in-response-to-the-plight-of-migrants?utm_medium=cpc&amp;utm_source=social&amp;utm_campaign=umcor+migration+call+to+action&amp;utm_term=umit+statement&amp;fbclid=IwAR0Z5Im7rlux3u6qRtq2EQ1-NkLjzlqRvAdmzHmqdNnAI2pg_nJygrR5fj0\" type=\"icon\" icon=\"people\" newwindow=\"yes\"] <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Call to Action<\/span>[\/button]\n\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n--><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Hygiene Kits<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>PUMC is joining the effort by supplying UMCOR with &#8220;Hygiene Kits.&#8221;\u00a0 The contents and makeup of these &#8220;kits&#8221; is specifically defined in detail by UMCOR.\u00a0 In our church, we can either donate a completed kit (made according to their instructions), or we can donate items which can be included in the kits.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here are the instructions from UMCOR.\u00a0 It is important to adhere closely to these details:<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><h3><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Hygiene Kit Contents<\/span><\/h3>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: square;\">\n<li><strong>One hand towel (15 x 25 \u201317 x 27 inches)<\/strong> \n<em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">No kitchen, cleaning, or microfiber towels\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">One washcloth\n<p><\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>One comb<\/strong>\n<em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Must be sturdy with at least 6 inches of teeth. <\/span><\/em><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">No pocket combs or picks.\u00a0 <\/span><\/em><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Rattail and combs without handles are acceptable but must have at least 6 inches of teeth<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">One toenail or fingernail clipper\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 \n<em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">No emery boards or metal nail files\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bath-size soap (3 oz. bar or larger)<\/span><\/strong>\n<em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">No Ivory or Jergen&#8217;s soap.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/em><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Do not remove from packaging.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">One adult toothbrush<\/span><\/strong>\n<em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Do not remove from packaging.\u00a0 <\/span><\/em><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Personal advertising not acceptable.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">10 adhesive bandages (\u00be by 3 inches)<\/span><\/strong>\n<em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Common household bandages acceptable.<\/span> <\/em><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">One one-gallon size re-sealable bag<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Important Notes<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">All items must be new.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Do not wash any of the items as they will no longer be considered new.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Do not include any personal notes, money or additional materials in the kits.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Contents of kits, or the containers of kits, should not be imprinted with cartoon characters, advertisements, religious, patriotic, military, or camouflage symbols.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Assembly Directions<\/span><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Lay hand towel flat on a table.
