On Sunday March 31 we will have a chance to help UMCOR stay in operation.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<h4><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;Relieve suffering around the world&#8221;?!? \u00a0 <br \/>\n<\/span><\/em><\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">What- Who&#8230; Me?!?\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We&#8217;ve seen a lot of disasters in recent history:<\/p>\n\n\t\t<div class='et-simple-slider et_sliderfx_slide et_sliderauto_true et_sliderauto_speed_3001 et_slidertype_simple'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-simple-slides'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tHurricanes in the U.S&#8230;\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tTwo hurricanes in Puerto Rico&#8230;\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tEarthquakes and tsunamis in the Indian Ocean&#8230;\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tDrought, famine, and refugees in the Horn of Africa&#8230;\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tTornadoes in our Southwest&#8230;\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div> <!-- .et-simple-slider -->\n\t\t\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">What can I do about all of that stuff?<\/span><\/em><\/h4>\n<p>We watch the drama unfold on our television screens and we feel totally helpless. How can any one person make a difference in the wake of such widespread <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-16260\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/UMCOR-Flood-Buckets-_UmcOrg-400x300-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/UMCOR-Flood-Buckets-_UmcOrg-400x300-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/09\/UMCOR-Flood-Buckets-_UmcOrg-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>devastation?\u00a0 Responders at home and around the world scramble to help survivors&#8230; but I&#8217;ve got a job and family.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t get around like I used to.\u00a0 What can I do???<\/p>\n<p>The fact is, before those responders even arrive, the United Methodist Committee On Relief is already there, organized and prepared to act.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\nThe response of UMCOR isn&#8217;t something &#8220;they&#8221; do, it&#8217;s something WE do. As United Methodists through UMCOR we reach children, families, and communities who have experienced devastation in the wake of disaster. That&#8217;s because your generous giving on UMCOR Sunday funds UMCOR&#8217;s work, allowing them to act as the hands and feet of Jesus, moving toward the most vulnerable in their darkest days.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>But&#8230; Me?\u00a0 I have enough problems in my own life&#8230;<\/em><\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Because United Methodists believe that all people have God-given worth and dignity, regardless of race, religion or gender; together we are there to help anyone impacted by crisis or chronic need. And, after the flood waters have receded, wounds have been cared for, basic needs have been met, and the worlds attention has faded; UMCOR is still there providing ongoing assistance for as long as it&#8217;s needed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Just Who&#8217;s this UMCOR Anyway?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Through their work, UMCOR reveals God&#8217;s steadfast love for humankind. For 75 years, UMCOR has brought hope and solidarity to communities in the United States and around the world in the wake of natural or man-made disasters; and have brought support and expertise to communities on a path to development. Because you give, the United Methodist Church&#8217;s compassionate response to human suffering is felt in more than 80 countries around the world.<\/p>\n<p>UMCOR&#8217;s work can be categorized into three major areas:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li>1. Humanitarian Relief\/\u00a0 Disaster Response. \u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>2. Sustainable Development.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>3. Global Health in collaboration with Global Ministries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To learn more about UMCOR, check out their website:\u00a0 <a href='https:\/\/www.umcor.org\/' class='icon-button people-icon' target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">UMCOR<\/span><span class='et-icon'><\/span><\/a> \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">What&#8217;s UMCOR Sunday&#8230; and Why Yet Another Offering???<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>UMCOR is able to provide fast and meaningful relief in the aftermath of disasters because of the UMCOR SUNDAY offering.<br \/>\nThis offering provides a solid foundation for UMCOR&#8217;s vital work by paying their general operating expenses.\u00a0 Then 100% of all other donations to UMCOR go directly to disaster relief.<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-bio'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Throughout the year, whenever a disaster hits, we always hear that 100% of our gifts go directly to the areas that need help.\u00a0 There&#8217;s no overhead.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">How&#8217;s that happen?\u00a0 UMCOR is just a management arm.\u00a0 They organize the relief efforts.\u00a0 &#8220;Regular People&#8221; are the responders who travel to the areas needing help.\u00a0 But even this organization and management takes money.\u00a0 And that&#8217;s where UMCOR Sunday comes in.\u00a0 The is the only organizational funding that UMCOR gets comes from UMCOR Sunday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After that annual offering is taken, all contributions for specific causes go directly to that cause&#8230; 100%.<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<p>\nThese United Methodist special offerings are all about people working together to accomplish something bigger than themselves.
