(3\/15\/19)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">The year to year flow of seasons in a church brings about a series of memorable highlights.\u00a0 For most PUMC&#8217;ers, events such as the Christmas Cantata, Christmas Eve service, Palm Sunday, Easter Sunday, and (thanks to Pastor Jim&#8230;), Superbowl Sunday are all special moments that we look forward to.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">For the men of the church, the annual retreat to Black Rock would fall into the list of favorites.\u00a0 We have now held 17 consecutive retreats.\u00a0 Each weekend holds a special memory and time of growth for the men who have attended.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Our 18th annual Men&#8217;s Retreat is in the works!\u00a0 As usual, it will be held at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blackrockretreat.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Black\u00a0Rock\u00a0Retreat<\/span><\/a> Center in Quarryville, PA.\u00a0 This year&#8217;s retreat will be on the weekend of March 15-17.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #339966;\">\u00a0=\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 =\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 =\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 =\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 =<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One facet of this retreat that will make it a bit different- ironically- is that we will have a returning speaker!\u00a0 Each year we have been blessed by different people (usually guest clergy) who have been willing to prepare a message and to spend the weekend with us.\u00a0 Two years ago, our guest speaker was the Rev.\u00a0 Matt Murphy.\u00a0 His message about Mission was so powerful that we wanted to hear more.\u00a0 And so, Pastor Matt will be leading our retreat again this year!\u00a0 We look forward to seeing him again.<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-info'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Men&#8217;s Fellowship Retreat<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">WHEN<\/span><\/strong>: Friday March 15 through Sunday March 17<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">TIMES<\/span><\/strong>:\u00a0 Starts Friday evening, ends Sunday noonish<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">WHERE<\/span><\/strong>:\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blackrockretreat.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Black Rock<\/a><\/span> Retreat Center, Lancaster Co. PA<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">COST<\/span><\/strong>:\u00a0 $114-$187<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\">WHO<\/span><\/strong>:\u00a0 Any man 17 years or older<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Retreat Leader&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>As in 2017, we welcome Pastor Matt Murphy to our weekend!\u00a0 Two years ago, Pastor Matt gave us a &#8220;50,000 feet&#8221; look at what it means to be a man on God&#8217;s mission.\u00a0 It was a great weekend and we&#8217;re so happy that Pastor Matt is able to return and to lead our weekend this year.<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><h4><span style=\"color: #008000;\">Pastor Matt\u2019s Bio<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Matt Murphy is currently a church planter in Levittown, PA. He also is a coach, trainer, and speaker throughout the northeast helping <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-13494\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Matt-Kelly-Murphy-_FB.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"143\" height=\"149\" \/>churches create a discipleship culture focused on Jesus\u2019 mission within their local church community and broader local communities outside the church.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> Matt has been married to his wife Kelly for nearly 15 years and they have 4 kids Joshua, Caleb, Gideon, and Sarah. In his spare time, he serves as a coach and cheerleader for his kid\u2019s sports teams and other activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Message&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Two years ago, Pastor Matt introduced us to Mission.\u00a0 He challenged us to get a firm grasp on our Mission, Message, Method, and Ministry.\u00a0 This is the &#8220;what&#8221; of the life to which God has called each of us.\u00a0 As Matt said, the 2017 weekend was a &#8220;50,000 feet view.&#8221;\u00a0 It was about the overview.\u00a0 But this time, we&#8217;re going to land the plane and get to where the rubber meets the road.<\/p>\n<p>Once you understand what our mission is (i.e., our purpose in life!), how do we fulfill it?\u00a0 What practical skills and disciplines do we need to cultivate in order to follow the mission that God has laid out for each of us?<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-info'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Theme<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003300;\">&#8220;A Man Shaped for God&#8217;s Mission: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Practices that Prepare us for God&#8217;s Mission&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Method&#8230; and Madness!<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>We never have a firm schedule.\u00a0 We&#8217;re Men!\u00a0 We take things as they come and go with the flow.\u00a0 But, there is a general plan.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s what usually happens during one of our retreat weekends:\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Friday- Dinner at the<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Restaurant_Review-g53504-d410388-Reviews-Quarryville_Family_Restaurant-Quarryville_Pennsylvania.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Quarryville Family Restaurant<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> (Optional)<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Friday Night- First session- The retreat officially gets underway!<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Saturday morning- Session #2<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Saturday afternoon- free time<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Saturday evening- Session #3<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Sunday morning- wrap up and worship. Depart by noon.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class='et-box et-bio'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><h4><span style=\"color: #800080;\"> Day Trippers Welcomed!<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003300;\">You don&#8217;t have to stay for the entire weekend!\u00a0 Stay for both nights, one night- or no nights. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Many have taken advantage of the option to just join the retreat on Saturday (that&#8217;s when the main part of the retreat happens).\u00a0 You&#8217;ll have to pay for any meals you have, but don&#8217;t feel that you must commit to the entire weekend in order to experience the retreat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Saturday Meals<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Breakfast: $10<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Lunch:\u00a0 $14<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #003300;\">Dinner: $17<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Along with the message, worship, prayer and other &#8220;serious stuff&#8221;, the weekends include a lot of fun things!\u00a0 During our free time we play games, some of us can even play chess, some of us hike, some play basketball, and others just hang out in front of the fire place.\u00a0 But of course, one of the major highlights, is the food!\u00a0 All meals (except for Friday&#8217;s dinner) are included, and the folks at Black Rock do a great job at stocking a big buffet.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And, if you have any room after enjoying the regular meals at Black Rock, we tend to supply our own version of food; but they&#8217;re clean and comfortable. They include a common bath room with a couple of showers (no towels are provided). Sleeping is on bunks. Five bunk beds are in each cabin, and generally we&#8217;ll have lower bunks for anyone wanting them. Cushions are provided on the bunks, but bring your own linins or sleeping bags. You&#8217;ll also need a towel.\u00a0 We have reserved 10 spots.<\/p>\n<p>Cost: $114<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tWhip-poor Will Lodge. This is one of the newest buildings on campus (or &#8220;in camp&#8221;?). If you&#8217;ve been on the retreat, you may remember seeing it; it&#8217;s the A-Frame building behind our &#8220;usual&#8221; conference room. The &#8220;lodge&#8221; has 8 spaces. Real beds and linen are provided.<\/p>\n<p>Cost: $179<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tMaranatha Lodge.\u00a0 This is the main building; the one with the fireplaces, basketball court, and cafeteria (sometimes we eat in the other cafeteria which is on the other side of the camp).\u00a0 The rooms are like hotel rooms; 3 spots per room.\u00a0 This is the first class location; you won&#8217;t need sleeping bags, sheets or towels here!<\/p>\n<p>Cost: $187<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tContent goes here\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .et-tabs-container --><\/p>\n<p>If you are interested in going on the retreat, contact Gene Sevene, Chris Valianti, or drop an email to <a href=\"mailto:UMM@PitmanUMC.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UMM@PitmanUMC.org<\/a>.
