(Camp Meeting, 7\/1\/18)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PUMC was the host church for the Pitman Camp Meeting on 7\/1\/18.\u00a0 Our &#8220;Voices In Praise&#8221; choir provided the &#8220;special music&#8221; and our pastor (Rev. Jim Bolton) gave the message.\u00a0 Pastor Jim&#8217;s message was based on Galatians 3\u00a0 and James 2.\u00a0 He reached into his Dr. Seuss library to illustrate God&#8217;s truth that we are all in one family, regardless of how we tend to see other&#8217;s as &#8220;us&#8221; and &#8220;them.&#8221;\u00a0 God has offered salvation to all of His children.<\/p>\n<p>The music and message were powerful, but so was the heat!\u00a0 But with the auditorium doors open, electric fans churning, and hand fans waving, the heat was bearable.\u00a0 And, free bottles of cold water are provided every week.\u00a0 Part of the summer experience!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Music&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Evenings at the Pitman Camp Meeting always open with the loud gong of the tabernacle bell, followed by a hymn sing.\u00a0 The hymnal, copyright in 1939,\u00a0 is loaded with classics from the Camp Meeting era: positive and upbeat songs which inspire us to praise our God and to long for a closer relationship with Him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Host Church&#8221; (the year rotates through several local Methodist Churches), then provides some &#8220;special music.&#8221;\u00a0 This music is different every week.\u00a0 Sometimes it&#8217;s a full Praise Band; multiple guitars, drums, keyboards.\u00a0 Sometimes it&#8217;s the simplicity of a ukulele (or 2 or 3).\u00a0 Sometimes it&#8217;s a sololist.<\/p>\n<p>But this week, the music was provided by our Voices in Praise Choir.\u00a0 Most of the choir made the trip from our sanctuary&#8217;s chancel to the Grove Auditorium&#8217;s &#8220;stage.&#8221;\u00a0 Before the sermon they sang two &#8220;choir pieces&#8221;:\u00a0 &#8220;Majesty&#8221; choir\n\t\t\t\t<\/dd><\/dl><br style=\"clear: both\" \/>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>After the sermon they sang &#8220;Soar Like an Eagle&#8221;, and then wrapped things up after the benediction the &#8220;The Lord Bless You and Keep You.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">There&#8217;s that Shirt Again!!!<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>OK.\u00a0 Pastor Jim is now beginning his 5th year at PUMC, and he has consistently shown us that he likes to enjoy worship.\u00a0 He likes to have fun; teaches about diversity and compromise. Here&#8217;s a You Tube rendition of the book:<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-info'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">You can get rid of that annoying advertisment bar that covers up the subtitles. There&#8217;s a small &#8220;X&#8221; to close it in the upper right hand corner of the box&#8230; look closely<\/span>.<\/div><\/div>\n<div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><p>https:\/\/youtu.be\/YlPmQX_9qo0?t=24s<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<p>More recent twists on the same theme came in 1991 when <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rodney_King\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rodney\u00a0King<\/a><\/span> said, &#8220;Can&#8217;t we all just get along?&#8221;\u00a0 Or as Sister Sledge sang in 1979, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/We_Are_Family_(song)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">We\u00a0Are\u00a0Family!<\/span><\/a>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>But you don&#8217;t have to go to pop culture to see God&#8217;s vision of Family.\u00a0 Pastor Jim lifted up two passages for his sermon- Galatians 3:28 and James 2:1-4.<\/p>\n<div class='et-learn-more clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class='heading-more'>Galatians 3:28 and James 2:1-4<span class='et_learnmore_arrow'><span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='learn-more-content'><h5 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Galatians 3:26-29<\/span> <\/span><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">26 For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.\u00a0 And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on the character of Christ, like putting on new clothes. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">28 <span style=\"background-color: #ccffff;\">There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">29 And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. All rights reserved.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Below is an audio recording of the message.\u00a0 Click the &#8220;Play&#8221; button and follow along&#8230;.<\/p>\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-18737-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/What-Can-We-Learn-from-the-Sneetches_.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/What-Can-We-Learn-from-the-Sneetches_.mp3\">https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/What-Can-We-Learn-from-the-Sneetches_.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the points Pastor Jim made during the message&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><strong>Jesus&#8217; prayer in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=john+17%3A20-25&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">John\u00a017<\/span><\/a> tells us that we are ONE.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">There&#8217;s no separation between the Father and the Son.\u00a0 And since we&#8217;re created in God&#8217;s image, God expects that there will be no separation between His children either.\u00a0 How can we draw people to Christ when we (the Church) can&#8217;t even get along with each other?<\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><strong>James says that we shouldn&#8217;t show favoritism.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">And yet, we&#8217;ve created so many fault lines of &#8220;Us&#8221; and &#8220;Them&#8221; that we&#8217;ve lost focus on the only thing that really matters:\u00a0 Jesus Christ.\u00a0 If we could just hang on to that most important thing, all of the other man made issues would go away.\u00a0 All people are one, equal In Christ.\u00a0<\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><strong>Galatians 3 says that we&#8217;re all Family.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">All of us are related to Abraham; not just the Jews.\u00a0 God has always reached out to the Gentiles.\u00a0 He even sent one of His prophets (Jonah) to Ninevah.\u00a0 Ninevah was the capital of the Assyrian empire.\u00a0 It worshiped idols and it was one of the most evil cities on earth.\u00a0 And yet, God reached out to even them.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=rev+5%3A6-9&amp;version=NLT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Revelation\u00a05:9<\/span><\/a> tells us that Jesus died to save people of &#8220;every tribe and tongue and people and nation.&#8221;<\/span>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\"><\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">We Have a Lot of Important Things in Common&#8230;<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Yes- God has given us diversity in areas such as race, gifts, talents, etc.\u00a0 But we tack on man-made divisions which tend to pit us against one another.\u00a0 Despite these divisions, we can hang on to the things that God has given to all of us.\u00a0 We have much in common:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Creation<\/strong>&#8211; We are all part of God&#8217;s creation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>God&#8217;s Call<\/strong>&#8211; God calls all of us (Noah wasn&#8217;t Jewish.
