{"id":1855,"date":"2014-05-18T19:53:32","date_gmt":"2014-05-18T23:53:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=1855"},"modified":"2014-06-05T21:36:37","modified_gmt":"2014-06-06T01:36:37","slug":"it-is-well-with-my-soul","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=1855","title":{"rendered":"It is Well with My Soul!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">It Is Belle With My Soul!<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Handbells-2014-05-18_0116.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-1857\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Handbells-2014-05-18_0116-300x206.jpg\" alt=\"Handbells-2014-05-18_0116\" width=\"178\" height=\"122\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Handbells-2014-05-18_0116-300x206.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Handbells-2014-05-18_0116.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 178px) 100vw, 178px\" \/><\/a>During the worship services on Sunday May 18, the Alleluia Bell choir played an arrangement of the hymn &#8220;It is Well with My Soul.&#8221;\u00a0 The musical arrangement was was difficult to play but it was also very engaging.\u00a0 It incorporated many moving parts on top of the melody, and obviously took the Bell Choir many nights of rehearsal in order to play this piece.<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">&#8220;Saved Alone&#8230; What Shall I Do?&#8221;<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This hymn was written by Horatio Spafford in 1873.\u00a0 Some years earlier, Mr. Spafford lost everything he owned during the Chicago fire. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Two years before writing this hymn, he decided to take his wife and four daughters to England to be with his friend Dwight Moody who organized a campaign that Fall to preach at various locations across England.\u00a0 His departure was held up,but his wife and daughters sailed ahead of him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">But on the Atlantic, the ship collided with another ship and it sank.\u00a0 Some days later, Mr. Spafford received a cable from his wife saying &#8220;Saved alone&#8230; what shall I do?&#8221;.\u00a0 His wife was rescued, but once again, Mr. Spafford suffered a great loss.\u00a0 His daughters were gone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He booked the next passage to England.\u00a0 On the way, the captain pointed out the location where the ship was believed to have gone down.\u00a0 That night, he wrote the words which are so familiar to Christians around the world&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When peace like a river attendeth my way&#8230; When sorrows like sea-billows roll; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say, It is well! It IS well with my soul!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Though Satan should buffet, tho&#8217; trials should come.
