{"id":17910,"date":"2018-04-10T18:32:49","date_gmt":"2018-04-10T22:32:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=17910"},"modified":"2018-04-11T20:46:52","modified_gmt":"2018-04-12T00:46:52","slug":"running-on-empty-4-8-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=17910","title":{"rendered":"Running on Empty (4\/8\/18)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">It was the Sunday after Easter (or as it&#8217;s officially called: &#8220;The 2nd Sunday of Easter&#8221;).\u00a0 Last week we had a huge crowd.\u00a0 The week before, we celebrated Palm Sunday with our <a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=17425\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">cantata<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0 Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Egg Hunt&#8230; it&#8217;s been busy.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve been on several mountaintops, and we&#8217;re feeling kinda worn out today.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-17947\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Gas-Gauge-Pontiac-_IMG_1643-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"227\" height=\"170\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Gas-Gauge-Pontiac-_IMG_1643-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Gas-Gauge-Pontiac-_IMG_1643.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 227px) 100vw, 227px\" \/><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Have you ever looked at your gas gauge and discovered that it was close to &#8220;E&#8221;?\u00a0 When the gauge really does hit &#8220;E&#8221;, the engine doesn&#8217;t totally stall out.\u00a0 Instead, it just sputters.\u00a0 And when you step on the gas, there&#8217;s no power.\u00a0 The engine&#8217;s still &#8220;alive&#8221;, but it&#8217;s running on fumes.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Sometimes people feel the same way.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">And, yet, the message of that first Resurrection Sunday is that Jesus is in our midst to &#8220;refill our tanks&#8221; and to restore our energy&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Pastor Jim&#8217;s scripture was from John 20:19-31.\u00a0 Click the below &#8220;Play&#8221; button to listen to the audio recording, then open the Drop Down box to read this passage (from the New King James Version)&#8230;<\/p>\n<audio class=\"wp-audio-shortcode\" id=\"audio-17910-1\" preload=\"none\" style=\"width: 100%;\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"audio\/mpeg\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Running-on-Empty-_2018-04-08-_v2.mp3?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Running-on-Empty-_2018-04-08-_v2.mp3\">https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/04\/Running-on-Empty-_2018-04-08-_v2.mp3<\/a><\/audio>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class='et-learn-more clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class='heading-more'>John 20:19-31<span class='et_learnmore_arrow'><span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='learn-more-content'><p>19 Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, &#8220;Peace be with you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>20 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.<\/p>\n<p>21 So Jesus said to them again, &#8220;Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, &#8220;Receive the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n<p>23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>24 Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.<\/p>\n<p>25 The other disciples therefore said to him, &#8220;We have seen the Lord.&#8221; So he said to them, &#8220;Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>26 And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, &#8220;Peace to you!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>27 Then He said to Thomas, &#8220;Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>28 And Thomas answered and said to Him, &#8220;My Lord and my God!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>29 Jesus said to him, &#8220;Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>30 And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book;<\/p>\n<p>31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<h3>\u00a0<\/h3>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Don&#8217;t Blame the Disciples!<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Cum&#8217;on- you&#8217;d probably do the same thing!\u00a0 Your master was crucified, and you&#8217;d be scared to death that they&#8217;d be looking for you next.\u00a0 And so you hunker down behind a locked door, trying to lie low until you figured out what to do next&#8230;.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<div class='author-shortcodes'>\n\t\t\t<div class='author-inner'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='author-image'>\n\t\t\t<img src='https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/et_temp\/Crucifixion-_Evgraf_Semenovich_Sorokin-88824_60x60.jpg' alt='' \/>\n\t\t\t<div class='author-overlay'><\/div>\n\t\t<\/div> <!-- .author-image --> \n\t\t<div class='author-info'>\n\t\t\t<span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;We thought Jesus was the One.\u00a0 We gave it all up for Him&#8230; Should we slip back into Galilee and fish?\u00a0 Should we leave this room and boldly speak up?\u00a0 What&#8217;s next???&#8221; <\/span>\n\t\t<\/div> <!-- .author-info -->\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .author-inner -->\n\t\t<\/div> <!-- .author-shortcodes -->\n<p>The disciples were exhausted.\u00a0 Filled with grief, filled with remorse, emptied by the ordeal and confusion.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">When You&#8217;re Running on Empty<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Like the disciples, sometimes we are paralyzed. Our &#8220;get up and go got up and went.&#8221;\u00a0 We need to be recharged.\u00a0 And that&#8217;s when Jesus &#8220;appears in our midst.&#8221;\u00a0 It happened literally for the disciples, but Jesus promises &#8220;to be with us always&#8221; too (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=matthew+28%3A18-20&amp;version=TLB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Matthew 28:20<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>We &#8220;look for peace in all the wrong places.&#8221;\u00a0 But Jesus doesn&#8217;t wait for them to come to Him.\u00a0 He comes to them.\u00a0 He takes the first step and goes to where they are.<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-bio'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jesus did the same thing for the widow in Nain.\u00a0 In<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Luke+7%3A11-17&amp;version=TLB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Luke 7:11-17<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">Jesus and His disciples were headed home when they &#8220;happened&#8221; to come across a funeral procession.\u00a0 The grieving mother was a widow and the deceased was her only son.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">But Jesus was moved with compassion and turned the funeral into a time of awe and wonder by raising the son from the dead.\u00a0 He didn&#8217;t do it as a teaching moment; the mother (or nobody else) called Jesus and asked Him to perform this miracle.\u00a0 He was &#8220;moved by compassion&#8221; and &#8220;stood in their midst.&#8221;<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p>When Jesus comes, His presence gives us three things (or more&#8230;) that recharge our batteries, fill our tanks, and give us the energy to get up and move on.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">1:\u00a0 Encouragement<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>The first thing Jesus says to these frightened disciples is &#8220;Peace be with you.&#8221;\u00a0 Chill out&#8230; take a deep breath&#8230; it will be ok!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He could have criticized them instead:\u00a0 &#8220;Why did you abandon me&#8230; Where were you when I needed you the most?&#8230; Why don&#8217;t you believe the report of Mary that I have risen from the dead?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But instead of criticism, He offers peace.\u00a0 He encourages them.\u00a0 He offers them His presence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jesus is saying, &#8220;<span style=\"background-color: #ccffcc;\">Know that I am with you<\/span>&#8220;&#8230;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">For He Himself has said, &#8220;I will never leave you nor forsake you.&#8221; So we may boldly say:<br \/>\n <\/span><\/em><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;The Lord is my helper;<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n <em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">I will not fear.<\/span><\/em><br \/>\n <em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">What can man do to me?&#8221;<\/span> <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Hebrews 13:5-6<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He tells us that He &#8220;<span style=\"background-color: #ccffcc;\">is walking this journey with you<\/span>&#8220;&#8230;.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was seven miles from Jerusalem.\u00a0 And they talked together of all these things which had happened. <br \/>\n <\/span><\/em><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them.<\/span> <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Luke 24:13-16<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">That &#8220;<span style=\"background-color: #ccffcc;\">You&#8217;re not alone&#8230;.<\/span>&#8220;<\/span>\u00a0\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-container et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_top_tabs'>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tMatt 28\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tJosh 1\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tDeut 31\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t1 Chron 28\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tGen 28\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tIsa 41\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul> <!-- .et-tabs-control --> \n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tMatthew 28:18-20<\/p>\n<p>18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, &#8220;All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.\u00a0 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,\u00a0 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, <span style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\">I am with you always<\/span>, even to the end of the age.&#8221; Amen.\u00a0\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tJoshua 1:5 and 9<\/p>\n<p>5 No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will <span style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\">not leave you nor forsake you<\/span>.\u00a0 Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.<\/p>\n<p>9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is <span style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\">with you wherever you go<\/span>.&#8221;\u00a0\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tDeuteronomy 31:5-6<\/p>\n<p>The Lord will give them over to you, that you may do to them according to every commandment which I have commanded you. \u00a0 Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who <span style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\">goes with you<\/span>. He will not leave you nor forsake you.&#8221;\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t1 Chronicles 28:20<\/p>\n<p>And David said to his son Solomon, &#8220;Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God \u2014 <span style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\">my God \u2014 will be with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you,<\/span> until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord.\u00a0\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tGenesis 28:15-16<\/p>\n<p>Behold, I am with you and <span style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\">will keep you wherever you go<\/span>, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, &#8220;Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.&#8221;\u00a0\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tIsaiah 41:10<\/p>\n<p>Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: #ffff99;\">I will strengthen you<\/span>, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.&#8217;\u00a0\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .et-tabs-container --><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He says, &#8220;<span style=\"background-color: #ccffcc;\">You can always talk to Me in prayer<\/span>&#8220;&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-container et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_top_tabs'>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t1 Jn 5\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tPs 34\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t1 Jn 3\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tJer 33\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tPr 15\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tJer 29\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tPs 69\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tJob 34\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul> <!-- .et-tabs-control --> \n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t1 John 5:14-15<\/p>\n<p>Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, <span style=\"background-color: #ccffff;\">He hears us<\/span>.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tPsalm 34:17-18<\/p>\n<p>The righteous cry out, and <span style=\"background-color: #ccffff;\">the Lord hears<\/span>, And delivers them out of all their troubles.<\/p>\n<p>The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t1 John 3:21-22<\/p>\n<p>Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence toward God.<\/p>\n<p>And <span style=\"background-color: #ccffff;\">whatever we ask we receive<\/span> from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tJeremiah 33:3<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<span style=\"background-color: #ccffff;\">&#8216;Call to Me, and I will answer you<\/span>, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.&#8217;\u00a0\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tProverbs 15:29<\/p>\n<p>The Lord is far from the wicked, But <span style=\"background-color: #ccffff;\">He hears<\/span> the prayer of the righteous.\u00a0\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tJeremiah 29:11-13<\/p>\n<p>For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.<\/p>\n<p>Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and <span style=\"background-color: #ccffff;\">I will listen to you<\/span>.\u00a0 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tPsalm 69:33<\/p>\n<p>For the <span style=\"background-color: #ccffff;\">Lord hears the poor<\/span>,\u00a0 And does not despise His prisoners.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tJob 34:28<\/p>\n<p>So that they caused the cry of the poor to come to Him;\u00a0\u00a0 For <span style=\"background-color: #ccffff;\">He hears<\/span> the cry of the afflicted.\u00a0\u00a0\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .et-tabs-container -->\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">He says, &#8220;<span style=\"background-color: #ccffcc;\">You can lean on Me when you are weak<\/span>&#8230; I&#8217;m always here to refill your tank when you are running low&#8230;&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;<em>Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.<br \/>\n <\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.<br \/>\n <\/em><\/span><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.<\/em>&#8220;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Matthew 11:28-30<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">2: Love<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>As soon as Jesus had spoken His words of peace to His disciples in order to calm them, He showed them the scars on His hands and in His side.\u00a0 He identifies Himself as the same person whom they had seen nailed to the cross.\u00a0 Not only were the scars a proof of Jesus&#8217; identity, but they also demonstrated the depth of His love.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-container et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_top_tabs'>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tJohn 3\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tRom 5\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tEph 2\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tRev 1:5\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t1 John 3\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul> <!-- .et-tabs-control --> \n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tJohn 3:16<\/p>\n<p>For God so <span style=\"background-color: #ff99cc;\">loved<\/span> the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tRomans 5:8<\/p>\n<p>But God demonstrates His own <span style=\"background-color: #ff99cc;\">love<\/span> toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tEphesians 2:4<\/p>\n<p>But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great<span style=\"background-color: #ff99cc;\"> love<\/span> with which He loved us,\u00a0 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus&#8230;\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tRevelation 1:5<\/p>\n<p>Grace to you and peace from Him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne,\u00a0 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth.<\/p>\n<p>To Him who<span style=\"background-color: #ff99cc;\"> loved<\/span> us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, to Him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t1 John 3:16<\/p>\n<p>By this we know <span style=\"background-color: #ff99cc;\">love<\/span>, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .et-tabs-container -->\n<p>When you and I are &#8220;running on empty,&#8221; we know that our Savior, who was wounded and died for us, loves us totally and completely.\u00a0 If He can love us all the way to the cross and to the empty tomb, He won&#8217;t give up on us now.\u00a0 When everything is falling apart and nothing is going right, peace and joy don&#8217;t come from what is happening around us.\u00a0 Rather, they come from our relationship with God through Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">3: Hope<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>The disciples were really downhearted as they hid behind locked doors.\u00a0 Their fear and doube drained their tanks.\u00a0 Their gauges were pointing on &#8220;E&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Especially Thomas&#8217;.\u00a0 He wasn&#8217;t there when Jesus appeared before, and he had lost all hope.\u00a0 Grief and despair had drained his tank.<\/p>\n<p>Even though Jesus invited Thomas to put his finger in the nail marks in His hands and side, Thomas didn&#8217;t need to.\u00a0 He simply knelt before Jesus saying, &#8220;My Lord and my God!&#8221;\u00a0 Thomas wasn&#8217;t overcome with proof; he was overcome with the realization of how much Jesus loved him.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus fills us with hope.<\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li>When the chips are down and trouble is overwhelming us, we have a Savior who will stand by us and help us.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>When our lives are threatened by sickness or enemies, Jesus will give us the courage.<\/li>\n<li>When death looms large, Jesus has won the victory for us and we will not fear death.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;Hope sines brightest when the hour is darkest.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Where the Rubber Meets the Road<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>All of this leads us to this point:<\/p>\n<p>The presence of the living and resurrected Jesus gives us a new reason to live.\u00a0 A new purpose.\u00a0 A new Challenge.\u00a0 A new way of looking at ourselves and the world around us.<\/p>\n<p>The presence of the living and resurrected Jesus fills our tanks.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><p>During the sermon, Pastor Jim referenced a sermon he gave last year about Peter having enough faith to get out and walk on the water&#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"q2mW7z10ME\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?p=16173\">Time to Get Our Feet Wet!
