(12\/17\/17)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Messiah is coming!\u00a0 As we enter the Christmas season we are called to prepare.\u00a0 Prepare our hearts.\u00a0 Prepare for change.<\/p>\n<p>And, as with many Advent seasons during the history of our church, the choirs are called to prepare their voices!\u00a0 The annual Christmas Cantata is held on the third Sunday of December (always at 4:15 PM).<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5043 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/GCC-Messiah14-cover-_IMG_1412-300x223.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"206\" height=\"153\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/GCC-Messiah14-cover-_IMG_1412-300x223.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/GCC-Messiah14-cover-_IMG_1412.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 206px) 100vw, 206px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>But this year&#8217;s Christmas Cantata will be a special event.\u00a0 We&#8217;re joining with other local choirs (and with a string ensemble) to sing the Christmas portion of Handel&#8217;s &#8220;The Messiah&#8221;!<\/p>\n<p>This has become a bit of a tradition since we moved into our new building; we performed The Messiah in 2007, 2012, and now 2017.\u00a0 We&#8217;ve been sticking to an &#8220;every five years&#8221; tradition of celebrating the arrival of our Savior-Messiah by performing this famous oratorio.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">A History of Worship<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\t\t\t<div class='tabs-left et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_left_tabs clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et_left_tabs_bg'><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t1742\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t2007\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t2012\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul> <!-- .et-tabs-control --> \n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16606 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Handel-GF-400x300-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"80\" height=\"60\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Handel-GF-400x300-300x224.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Handel-GF-400x300.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 80px) 100vw, 80px\" \/> In April of 1742, the glorious music of George Friedrick Handel&#8217;s Messiah, along with the scriptural text by Charles Jennens, was first presented in Dublin, Ireland.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the centuries, musicians and audiences have been challenged and inspired by this great work.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-9963 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Christmas-Eve15-candle-_IMG_2882-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"81\" height=\"61\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Christmas-Eve15-candle-_IMG_2882-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/Christmas-Eve15-candle-_IMG_2882.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 81px) 100vw, 81px\" \/>On December 23, 2007 we celebrated the first Christmas in our new church home. Our Voices in Praise Choir continued the Annual Candlelight Cantata, as had been done for over 80 years.<\/p>\n<p>For the first &#8220;Candlelight Cantata&#8221; in our new building, we presented the Christmas Portion of Handel&#8217;s Messiah, and invited choirs from various churches and community choral groups to join us.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-5041 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/GCC-Messiah-Choir-balcony-_IMG_1392-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"79\" height=\"59\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/GCC-Messiah-Choir-balcony-_IMG_1392-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/GCC-Messiah-Choir-balcony-_IMG_1392.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 79px) 100vw, 79px\" \/>Again, in 2012, we presented The Messiah, and once again had a choir of 85 voices.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .tabs-left -->\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #000080;\">2017: The tradition Continues!<\/span><\/h4>\n<p>Five years later, we will come together again, on <span style=\"color: #000000;
