It was Jesus, but she didn&#8217;t recognize him.<\/p>\n<p>15 <strong>&#8220;Dear woman, why are you crying?&#8221; Jesus asked her. &#8220;Who are you looking for?&#8221;\u00a0 She thought he was the gardener. &#8220;Sir,&#8221; she said, &#8220;if you have taken him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will go and get him.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>16 &#8220;Mary!&#8221; Jesus said. She turned to him and cried out, &#8220;Rabboni!&#8221; (which is Hebrew for &#8220;Teacher&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p>17 &#8220;Don&#8217;t cling to me,&#8221; Jesus said, &#8220;for I haven&#8217;t yet ascended to the Father. But go find my brothers and tell them that I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>18 Mary Magdalene found the disciples and told them, &#8220;I have seen the Lord!&#8221; Then she gave them his message.<\/p><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Our Joy that Hath No End&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Is there a letdown on this first Sunday after Easter?\u00a0 Even after the eggs and chocolate are gone, there&#8217;s an inner joy that can be experienced every day.\u00a0 In the 7th Century, John of Damascus wrote the following poem (which was later turned into a hymn which is on page 303 of our hymnals, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hymnsite.com\/lyrics\/umh303.sht\" target=\"_blank\">The Day of Resurrection<\/a>&#8220;)&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-container et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_top_tabs'>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tVerse 1\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tVerse 2\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tVerse 3\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul> <!-- .et-tabs-control --> \n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tThe day of resurrection!\u00a0 Earth, tell it out abroad;<\/p>\n<p>the passover of gladness,\u00a0 the passover of God.<\/p>\n<p>From death to life eternal,\u00a0 from earth unto the sky,<\/p>\n<p>our Christ hath brought us over,\u00a0 with hymns of victory.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tOur hearts be pure from evil, that we may see aright<\/p>\n<p>the Lord in rays eternal of resurrection light;<\/p>\n<p>and listening to his accents, may hear, so calm and plain,<\/p>\n<p>his own &#8220;All hail!&#8221; and, hearing, may raise the victor strain.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tNow let the heavens be joyful! Let earth the song begin!<\/p>\n<p>Let the round world keep triumph, and all that is therein!<\/p>\n<p>Let all things seen and unseen their notes in gladness blend,<\/p>\n<p>for Christ the Lord hath risen, our joy that hath no end.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .et-tabs-container -->\n<p>Many today are not feeling the joy of this song, and Mary and the other disciples weren&#8217;t feeling any joy during that first Easter Morning either.\u00a0 Mary wasn&#8217;t going on an Easter Egg hunt; she was going to a cemetery! Who would ever expect that a trip to the cemetery would lead you to a direct face to face encounter with the person you&#8217;re visiting?<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Seek or Run<\/span>?<\/h3>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t an Easter Egg hunt.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s what the Bible tells us about that first Easter morning&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000080; font-size: 14pt;\">A job to do&#8230;<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nThe morning starts out when Mary and other women head for the tomb to give Jesus&#8217; body a proper anointing.<\/p>\n<div class='et-learn-more clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class='heading-more'>Gospel Accounts<span class='et_learnmore_arrow'><span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='learn-more-content'><blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus&#8217; body.\u00a0 Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb\u00a0 and they asked each other, &#8220;Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?&#8221;\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">Mark 16:1-3<\/span>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance.\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">John 20:1-2<\/span>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb.\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">Matt 28:1<\/span>\n<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_10997\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10997\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-10997\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/GordensCal-OutTomb_Small55-19-300x223.jpg\" alt=\"Gordens Calvary garden tomb \" width=\"300\" height=\"223\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/GordensCal-OutTomb_Small55-19-300x223.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/GordensCal-OutTomb_Small55-19.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-10997\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Outside of the garden tomb<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000080;\">Surprise!<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nBut they run into a bit of a surprise!\u00a0 Instead of a stone that needed to be rolled away they discover an angel telling them to return to the disciples and give them the news about the resurrection&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class='et-learn-more clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class='heading-more'>Gospel Accounts<span class='et_learnmore_arrow'><span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='learn-more-content'><blockquote><p>The angel said to the women, &#8220;Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.\u00a0 He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.\u00a0 Then go quickly and tell his disciples: &#8216;He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him.&#8217; Now I have told you.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">Matt 28:5-7<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away.\u00a0 As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Don&#8217;t be alarmed,&#8221; he said. &#8220;You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.\u00a0 But go, tell his disciples and Peter, &#8216;He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.'&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">Mark 16:4-7<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>They found the stone rolled away from the tomb,\u00a0 but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus.\u00a0 While they were wondering about this, suddenly two men in clothes that gleamed like lightning stood beside them.\u00a0 In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, &#8220;Why do you look for the living among the dead?\u00a0 He is not here; he has risen! Remember how he told you, while he was still with you in Galilee:\u00a0 &#8216;The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.'&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0 Then they remembered his words.<\/p>\n<p>When they came back from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and to all the others.\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">Luke 24:2-10<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<div id=\"attachment_10998\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-10998\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-10998\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/GordensCal-TombDoor_Small55-17-300x208.jpg\" alt=\"Gordens Calvary garden tomb resurrection\" width=\"300\" height=\"208\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/GordensCal-TombDoor_Small55-17-300x208.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/GordensCal-TombDoor_Small55-17.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-10998\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">He is risen. He is not here!<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #000080;\">The Second Visit&#8230;<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">The women go and tell the disciples.\u00a0 John fills in the extra detail of Peter and John dashing off to the tomb to see for themselves.\u00a0 Mary comes too, but she sticks around&#8230;<\/span><\/p>\n<div class='et-learn-more clearfix'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class='heading-more'>John&#039;s Account<span class='et_learnmore_arrow'><span><\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='learn-more-content'><blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, &#8220;They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don&#8217;t know where they have put him!&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">John 20:2<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb.\u00a0 Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first.\u00a0 He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in.\u00a0 Then Simon Peter, who was behind him, arrived and went into the tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there,\u00a0 as well as the burial cloth that had been around Jesus&#8217; head. The cloth was folded up by itself, separate from the linen.\u00a0 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed.\u00a0 (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Then the disciples went back to their homes&#8230; \u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">John 20:3-11<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8230; but Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb\u00a0 and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus&#8217; body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #99cc00;\">John 20:11-12<\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote><\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Stick around and Keep Seeking<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>John tells us that Mary would not leave.\u00a0 She just can&#8217;t leave.\u00a0 She keeps searching and searching, and while she really has no idea of what to do, she retraces her steps looking into the empty grave again.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps she thinks, &#8220;Maybe I just didn&#8217;t look in the right spot.&#8221;\u00a0 Who knows what she was thinking.\u00a0 <strong>But she Keeps On Searching<\/strong>!<\/p>\n<p>Maybe she was remembering what Jesus said back in Galliee, &#8220;<strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">seek and you shall find.<\/span><\/em><\/strong>&#8221; (Matthew 7:7).\u00a0 Maybe she remembered what her scriptures taught about seeking God&#8230;\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-container et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_top_tabs'>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tJeremiah\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tProverbs\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul> <!-- .et-tabs-control --> \n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<span style=\"color: #800080;\">Jeremiah\u00a0 29:11-14<\/span> \u00a0\u00a0 For I know the plans I have for you,&#8221; declares the Lord, &#8220;plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.\u00a0 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.\u00a0 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.\u00a0 I will be found by you,&#8221; declares the Lord, &#8220;and will bring you back from captivity.\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<span style=\"color: #800080;\">Proverbs 8:17<\/span> \u00a0 I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .et-tabs-container --><\/p>\n<p>What about us?\u00a0 When the unexpected happens to us do we continue to search for God in the midst?\u00a0 Or do we get distracted and give up?<\/p>\n<p>Someone asked Mary &#8220;Why are you crying?&#8221;\u00a0 But for a moment, Mary was distracted by her grief and confusion.\u00a0 Since it&#8217;s early morning, she assumes that the voice belongs to the gardener who would be making his rounds at that time of day.\u00a0 Even after she turned to look towards the voice, perhaps she was &#8220;distracted&#8221; by the bright sunrise.\u00a0 She didn&#8217;t recognize that her search for Jesus paid off until she heard his familiar voice speak her name, &#8220;Mary.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Once Jesus spoke her name, her life was changed.\u00a0 Mary sought, and Jesus&#8217; voice found her.<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-warning'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Are we listening for God in prayer?\u00a0 Are we seeking for God in the scriptures?\u00a0<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 *\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 *\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 *\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 *\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 *\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 *\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 *<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Mary Didn&#8217;t Find Jesus:\u00a0 Jesus Found Mary!<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Isn&#8217;t that the whole point of the Gospel?\u00a0 God is searching for us!\u00a0 Because of our sin, we wouldn&#8217;t seek Him.\u00a0 So God provides forgiveness and seeks us instead!<\/p>\n<p>Check out any other major faith system in the world and you&#8217;ll discover that their deity sits and demands people to come to them.\u00a0 But the God of Jesus Christ is a God who peruses humanity!\u00a0 Throughout scripture, God reveals Himself as a seeker.\u00a0 We find Him on a continual pursuit.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-container et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_top_tabs'>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tJohn 4\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t2 Peter 3\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tPsalm 14\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\t2 Chronicles 16\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tLuke 19\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul> <!-- .et-tabs-control --> \n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tYet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. \u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">John\u00a04:23<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tThe Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. <span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">2\u00a0Peter\u00a03:9<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tThe Lord looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. <span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">Psalm\u00a0 14:2<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tFor the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. <span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">2\u00a0Chronicles\u00a016:9<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\tFor the Son of Man came to seek and to save what was lost.&#8221; <span style=\"color: #00ff00;\">Luke\u00a019:10<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div> <!-- .et-tabs-container -->\n<p>God seeks us!\u00a0 He&#8217;s committed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-bio'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Timothy Keller of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Manhattan rightly observes that &#8220;Christianity is unique among all religions for it is about God&#8217;s pursuit of us to draw us to Himself.\u00a0 In every other religious system, people pursue their god, hoping that through good behavior, keeping of rituals, good works, or other efforts they will be accepted by the god they pursue.&#8221;<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>God is like a sheep dog nipping at our heals.\u00a0 He peruses us as He molds us into His image.<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-bio'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The British poet Francis Thompson catches the profound nature of this reality when he writes of the relentless pursuit of God in his life.\u00a0 In his work titled &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Hound_of_Heaven\" target=\"_blank\">The\u00a0Hound\u00a0of\u00a0Heaven<\/a>&#8220;, he writes that as he fled from God he couldn&#8217;t outrun &#8220;those strong feet that followed&#8230; with unhurrying chase and unperturbed pace.&#8221;<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p>God is constantly perusing us.\u00a0 He didn&#8217;t save us to be sitting up in heaven saying, &#8220;OK, let&#8217;s see what they do now.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This pursuit is the same story we find in Genesis 3:8-9 when God seeks Adam and Eve after they sinned.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the Lord God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and <span style=\"background-color: #00ff00;\">they hid<\/span> from the Lord God among the trees of the garden.\u00a0 <span style=\"background-color: #00ff00;\">But the Lord God called<\/span> to the man, &#8220;Where are you?&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the same pursuit of the father of the Prodigal Son in Luke\u00a015:20<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the same pursuit that Jesus speaks about when He tells us about the Good Shepherd in Luke\u00a015:4-6<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">&#8220;Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and <span style=\"background-color: #00ff00;\">go after<\/span> the lost sheep until he finds it?\u00a0 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders.&#8221;<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In the Christian church, are we committed to finding that one lost sheep?\u00a0 Even if we&#8217;re not obeying Him, God is still pursuing us. That should make us want to run closer to that God, not run away from Him!<\/p>\n<p>Jesus didn&#8217;t wait for Mary.\u00a0 He came to her in her greatest hour of need.\u00a0 We can say that even before she arrived at the tomb, Jesus was seeking after her.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">I belong to my lover,\u00a0 and his desire is for me.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> Song of Solomon 7:10<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>If you&#8217;re in an emergency room; God is there.\u00a0 He&#8217;s looking for you.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re having a bad day at work- God is there.\u00a0 He&#8217;s looking for you.\u00a0 You are precious in God&#8217;s sight (Isaiah 43:4).\u00a0 You are the apple of His eye (Zecheriah 2:8).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Mary Searched For Jesus With Her Whole Being<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>There&#8217;s no blame for Mary as she didn&#8217;t recognize the resurrected Jesus at first.\u00a0 I mean, afterall, who goes to a cemetery to visit someone who has passed, and expects to meet them and talk with them?<\/p>\n<p>Isn&#8217;t it true for us?\u00a0 We find ourselves in the midst of challenge and we forget that God said, &#8220;<strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">I will never leave you or foresake you<\/span><\/em><\/strong>&#8221; (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews+13%3A5&amp;version=TLB\" target=\"_blank\">Hebrews 13:5<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>We have a God who will never throw us under the bus.\u00a0 We have a God who is constantly in love with us.<\/p>\n<p>To her credit, Mary didn&#8217;t run away.\u00a0 She didn&#8217;t sit and pout.\u00a0 She kept searching.\u00a0 She still may have doubted, but she kept searching for Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>In Mark 12:29-30, Jesus said that the most important command is to\u00a0 &#8220;<strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength<\/span><\/em><\/strong>.&#8217; &#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">ALL<\/span><\/strong>&#8220;&#8230; There are only three letters in that word, but &#8220;<strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">ALL<\/span><\/strong>&#8221; is a huge word!\u00a0 God asks us to pursue Him the same way He&#8217;s pursuing us!<\/p>\n<p>Jesus has a way of showing up when we least expect Him. For Mary, it was at a tomb.\u00a0 For others, it has happened at a funeral&#8230;<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-info'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">When sharing with families who are going through a time of grief,\u00a0 I always tell them to give themselves permission to stop and see where God is.\u00a0 Sometimes we get distracted.\u00a0 But if we seek God, even at a cemetery, God is going to show up. <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-8708 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Butterfly-_Facebook_300x300.jpg\" alt=\"Butterfly _Facebook_300x300\" width=\"268\" height=\"268\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Butterfly-_Facebook_300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Butterfly-_Facebook_300x300-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Butterfly-_Facebook_300x300-178x178.jpg 178w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Butterfly-_Facebook_300x300-184x184.jpg 184w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 268px) 100vw, 268px\" \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Some years ago I was performing a funeral 13 year old girl.\u00a0 She had died after a long illness, and it was obviously a very emotional service.\u00a0 A lot of her young friends were in attendance at the funeral home, and a group of kids was sitting on the floor near the casket. So I sat down on the floor with them.\u00a0 I started talking to them about caterpillars and how they turn into a chrysalis and then become butterflies.\u00a0 I was trying to give them some sense of what&#8217;s happening here, of what&#8217;s going on; death is a comma- not a period.\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The service at the funeral home ended, and we drove to the cemetery.\u00a0 We reached the end of the graveside service, and the family members each laid a flower on the casket.\u00a0 Just as the dad stepped up to lay his flower on his daughter&#8217;s casket,\u00a0 a monarch butterfly suddenly appeared and flew towards the coffin.\u00a0 It circled around the casket three times&#8230;\u00a0 and then disappeared.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Yes- God is here!\u00a0 God will show up!!!\u00a0 He shows up in a cemetery. He showed up to Mary.\u00a0 He shows up to us!<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Our God never leaves us or forsakes us.\u00a0 Are we seeking Him with the same intensity that He is seeking us?\u00a0 Just as a sunflower bends and strains to face the sun&#8217;s rays, do we strain at the leash to find God?<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-6634\" src=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/sunflower-402249__180.jpg\" alt=\"sunflower-402249__180\" width=\"269\" height=\"179\" srcset=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/sunflower-402249__180.jpg 270w, https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/sunflower-402249__180-140x94.jpg 140w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 269px) 100vw, 269px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Or do we give up and let go?<\/p>\n<p>Psalm 63:8 says, &#8220;<strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">My soul clings to you;\u00a0 your right hand upholds me.<\/span><\/em><\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Hebrew word used in the psalm literally means &#8220;longs to come as near to thee as possible.&#8221; It points to loyalty related to affection.\u00a0 It&#8217;s the same word used in Genesis 2:24 where it says that a man will &#8220;cleave&#8221; to his wife.<\/p>\n<p>In John 20:17 Jesus tells Mary, &#8220;<strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father.<\/span><\/em><\/strong>&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Mary had a strong desire to be with Jesus.\u00a0 But her desire to seek and find Jesus also made her want to tell others.\u00a0 Mary was the first evangelist!\u00a0 Right after Jesus told her to not &#8220;cling&#8221; to Him, He told Mary to &#8220;<strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Go to My brethren and say to them, &#8216;I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.<\/span><\/em><\/strong>&#8216;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Jesus seeks us to send us off, so that we can go and help Him find others!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-bio'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A. W. Tozer wrote,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8220;Come near to the holy men and women of the past and you will soon feel the heat of their desire after God.\u00a0 They mourned for Him, they prayed and wrestled and sought for Him day and night, in season and out, and when they had found Him, the finding was all the sweeter for the long seeking&#8230;. <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Complacency is a deadly foe of all spiritual growth.&#8221;<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">&#8220;The Pursuit of God, pages 15, 17<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">How&#8217;s Your Pursuit???<\/span><\/h3>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #800080;\">Complacency is a deadly foe of all spiritual growth.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Friends, these first words of Jesus after the resurrection are not just for Mary, but are for us as well.\u00a0 Often, we like Mary, find that life is not turning out as expected.\u00a0 We find ourselves at times overwhelmed by the weight of our responsibilities and just life in general.<\/p>\n<p>But we too can have the same hopeful experience that Mary had that holy morning.\u00a0 We can find this hope when we&#8217;ve searched for the Lord with our whole being.\u00a0 We can find Him because He&#8217;s looking for us!<\/p>\n<p>Jesus&#8217; first recorded words after the resurrection were, &#8220;<strong><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Why are you crying?\u00a0 Who is it you are looking for?<\/span><\/em><\/strong>&#8221; (John 20:15).
