As soon as we arrived to worship on Sunday February 7 (2016), we knew things \"SuperSundaywould be different.\u00a0 Actually, Pastor Jim always tries to keep us on our toes, but this Sunday he greeted us wearing a Jerry Rice San Franscisco 49’ers jersey!\u00a0 One look around the sanctuary and it was easy to see that something was up when people were wearing clothes emblazoned with names such as Phillies, Eagles, Steelers, and Flyers.\u00a0 It was Super Bowl Sunday, and we were going to change things up a bit to inject some extra joy into our time of worship.<\/p>\n

If the clothing wasn’t enough of a tip off, certainly the bulletin- er- “Official Souvenir Program” really sealed the “something is up this Sunday” deal.\u00a0 The “Program” listed some unusual events making up the worship lineup…<\/p>\n\n\t\t

\n\t\t\tThe “Songs of Praise and Worship…<\/span><\/strong>“<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t
\n\t\t\tThe “Songs of Praise and Worship…” became <\/span>“The Warm Up<\/span><\/strong>“<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t
\n\t\t\tThe “Opening Prayer…<\/span><\/strong>“<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t
\n\t\t\t The “Opening Prayer…” was now “The Huddle Up<\/span><\/strong>“<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t
\n\t\t\tThe “Offering<\/span><\/strong>“…<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t
\n\t\t\tThe “Offering”…<\/span> was replaced with “The Coin Toss<\/span><\/strong>“<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t
\n\t\t\tThe “Children’s Sermon…<\/span><\/strong>“<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t
\n\t\t\tThe “Children’s Sermon…”<\/span> became “A Time Out<\/span><\/strong>“<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t
\n\t\t\tThe “Scripture Reading…<\/span><\/strong>“<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t
\n\t\t\tThe “Scripture Reading…”<\/span><\/span> was now called “Reading the Playbook<\/span><\/strong>“<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t
\n\t\t\tNo more “Sermon…<\/span><\/strong>“<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t
\n\t\t\tThe “Sermon…”<\/span><\/span> was now called “Studying the Game Plan<\/span><\/strong>“<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t
\n\t\t\tEven the “Benediction Response…<\/span><\/strong>“<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t
\n\t\t\tThe “Benediction Response…”<\/span><\/span> turned into “Victory Chants<\/span><\/strong>“<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t\n

Pastor Jim’s Sermon (or “Studying the Game Plan”) had a Superbowl theme.\u00a0 The “Playbook” was 1 Timothy 6:6-12 & Philippians 3:7-16, and the “Study” was entitled “Playing on God’s Super Team.”\u00a0 Click\u00a0 below to check out the Game Plan…<\/p>\nThe Game Plan<\/span><\/a>\n

Even the choir left their robes in the closet and appeared in the loft wearing some “untraditional” Sunday-go-to-meeting clothes.<\/p>\n

And the Pastor and the rest of the congregation wore clothes more akin to a Stadium than to a Sanctuary…<\/p>\n

Why???<\/span><\/h3>\n

We do serve a Holy God; so certainly there’s something to be said for dressing up and keeping an atmosphere of reverence during our times of worship.<\/p>\n

But, we also serve a Living Savior!\u00a0 We serve a Lord who loves us, cries with us, and laughs with us.\u00a0 Taking this time of “tongue in cheek” bulletins and of informal dress is a way to celebrate that love and joy.<\/p>\n
