Super Bowl Sunday!\u00a0 The day of the Big Game!\u00a0 In a few hours the Denver Broncos would battle the Carolina Panthers; each team trying to reach the endzone and to win the Super Bowl prize.\u00a0 Both teams taking their turns making mistakes (fumbles and turnovers).\u00a0 <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

During our worship service we observed this “special day” by dressing down and wearing our favorite team jerseys.\u00a0 Our goal wasn’t to worship Sports; our goal was to learn whatever spiritual lessons we could from this analogy of a football game.
\n<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

1 Timothy 6<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t

1 Timothy 6:6-12<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

6 Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth.<\/p>\n

7 After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it.<\/p>\n

8 So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content.<\/p>\n

9 But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction.<\/p>\n

10 For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.<\/p>\n

11 But you, Timothy, are a man of God; so run from all these evil things. Pursue righteousness and a godly life, along with faith, love, perseverance, and gentleness.<\/p>\n

12 Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have confessed so well before many witnesses.<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>

Philippians 3<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t

Philippians 3:7-16<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

7 I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done.<\/p>\n

8 Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ<\/p>\n

9 and become one with him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with himself depends on faith.<\/p>\n

10 I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death,<\/p>\n

11 so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!<\/p>\n

12 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.<\/p>\n

13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead,<\/p>\n

14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.<\/p>\n

15 Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you.<\/p>\n

16 But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div><\/p>\n
