{"id":978,"date":"2014-03-06T21:41:30","date_gmt":"2014-03-07T01:41:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?page_id=978"},"modified":"2015-01-12T15:33:39","modified_gmt":"2015-01-12T19:33:39","slug":"milestone-events","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?page_id=978","title":{"rendered":"Milestones (Weddings, etc.)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Weddings, Baptisms, and Funerals&#8230;<\/span><\/h3>\n<p>One of the most important advantages of walking life&#8217;s journey in the way of Christ is the support and fellowship of a church family.\u00a0 During highs and lows of life, Christ is with you.\u00a0 You can&#8217;t get away from His presence.<\/p>\n<p>God demonstrates His love through His people.\u00a0 He is present not only\u00a0<em>in<\/em> the church (building), but He is present <em>among<\/em> the church (the people).\u00a0 Because of that, the people of our church want to be present with you in life&#8217;s mountains and valleys.<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Weddings<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">As United Methodists, we believe that God ordained marriage.\u00a0 The wedding ceremony is a public celebration marking the commitment between a man and woman.\u00a0 A wedding proclaims the relationship&#8217;s dependence on God in all of life&#8217;s turns and it allows friends and family to join in the commitment and support of the relationship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If you want to hold\u00a0 a wedding in our sanctuary, contact the pastor.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For further information, read our<\/span> <span style=\"color: #000080;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Wedding-Pamphlet.pdf\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Wedding Pamphlet<\/span>.<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Baptisms<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In the United Methodist Church we believe that God&#8217;s prevenient Grace is available to all people.\u00a0 This gift of God &#8220;Goes Before&#8221; us and gives us opportunities to grow towards God.\u00a0 Prevenient Grace is at work around us even when we don&#8217;t realize it.\u00a0 Baptism is a public recognition of God&#8217;s saving grace at work in sinful people.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a once in a life time experience.\u00a0 Since God&#8217;s grace is always present, you can only be baptized once.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">God&#8217;s prevenient grace is\u00a0 available to people of all ages.\u00a0 Jesus said, &#8220;Let the children come to me.\u00a0 Do not hinder them for to such belongs the kingdom of God.&#8221;\u00a0 We therefore believe that infant baptism is an appropriate recognition of God&#8217;s grace and of the church&#8217;s responsibility in being God&#8217;s servant of that grace.\u00a0 In a baptism, the church and family profess their commitment to the spiritual well-being of the person being baptized.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/BaptismApplication.doc\"><span style=\"color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;\">BaptismApplication<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #800000;\">\u00a0Funerals<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Death is part of life, and frequently it is\u00a0 God&#8217;s ultimate form of healing.\u00a0 And yet, human separation is difficult.\u00a0 Jesus cried when his friend Lazarus died. \u00a0 We believe that the soul exists forever, but that there is a death which results in eternal separation from God.\u00a0\u00a0 We believe that people who have admitted their sinfulness and who have placed their faith in the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ will never be separated from God.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If you have recently lost a loved one, our church wants to help you in this period of grief.\u00a0 We want to join with you in your celebration of your loved one&#8217;s life and in the worship of God&#8217;s amazing saving grace.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">===========================================<\/p>\n<p>For information on other events, visit <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/pitmanumc.org\/wp\/?page_id=630\" target=\"_blank\">This Page<\/a><\/span> and download our Building Use Form.<\/p>\n<p>For information on how our church can serve you during these &#8220;Milestone&#8221;
