you probably picture somebody holding a flashlight directing you to your seat in a darkened movie theater.\u00a0 In the context of a church service, the first thing that likely comes to mind is of someone handing you an offering plate.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">But at PUMC, the word &#8220;usher&#8221; goes much deeper.\u00a0 &#8220;Ushers&#8221; are there for YOU.\u00a0 Especially if you&#8217;re visiting for the first time, our ushering team is there to make you feel welcome and at home.\u00a0 Yes, they&#8217;ll pass out the offering plates during the service, but our ushers and hosts will great you at the door, direct you to the nursery or sanctuary.\u00a0 They&#8217;ll even show you where the restrooms are!<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<div class='et-box et-shadow'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et-box-content'><h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">Ushers During the Covid-19 Era<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The coronavirus has turned our lives upside down, and it has also drastically changed the way we worship on Sundays.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">All of our services are presented on our Live Stream.\u00a0 But if you prefer to join in the worship service in person (when in person services are available), your safety against this horrible pandemic will be primary.\u00a0 Our goal is in harmony with Bishop Schol&#8217;s statement that &#8220;nobody become sick because of any United Methodist Activity.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">To that end, our &#8220;ushers&#8221; are taking on a lot of new roles.\u00a0 In fact, to call them &#8220;ushers&#8221; is a mis-nomer.\u00a0 They&#8217;ll still strive to make you at home, welcomed,\u00a0 and comfortable, but during this time they are also tasked with keeping everyone safe from receiving and spreading this coronavirus.\u00a0 We have formulated a detailed safety plan (in accordance with Health guidelines, local requirements, and also by the standards devised by the Greater NJ Annual Conference).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Our ushers will be charged with implementing this safety plan whenever there is a congregation in our sanctuary.\u00a0 Our safety plan requires the following eight roles:\u00a0 \n<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">1.\u00a0<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #008000;\">Head Usher- \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Oversee all volunteers, fix any problems<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>2.<span style=\"color: #008000;\">\u00a0 Parking Lot Attendant Before Service-<\/span><\/strong> \u00a0\u00a0 Start at 9:50 till 10:20, Keep a open space between parked cars<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>3.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #008000;\"> Parking Lot Attendant After Service-<\/span><\/strong> \u00a0 Keep people social distancing and do not allow to congregate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>4.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #008000;\">Greeter- <\/span><\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>5.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #008000;\">Social Distance Monitor, Narthex Before Service-<\/span><\/strong> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Make sure people don&#8217;t gather to talk in the narthex, move them in to the sanctuary.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>6.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #008000;\">Social Distance Monitor: Narthex After Service-<\/span><\/strong> \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Keep people from gathering and talking after the service, move them out to their cars.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>7.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #008000;\">Social Distance Monitor: Sanctuary-<\/span><\/strong> \u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Keep people from gathering and talking too close together and space out seating.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>8.\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #008000;\">Mask Compliance-<\/span><\/strong> \u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Make sure everyone that entering and leaving the building is wearing their mask correctly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If you wish to attend an in-person service, PLEASE consider doing your part and volunteering to be part of the ushering team.
