PUMC is a Safe Sanctuaries Church!<\/span><\/h3>\n

Children are precious gifts!\u00a0 When you entrust your child to our care during a Sunday School, Youth Group, or other event we want you to be assured that your child is safe.\u00a0 In this world, even in a church, precautions against abuse are \"\"important.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

At Pitman UMC we adhere to a strict “Safe Sanctuaries” policy.\u00a0 Anyone volunteering to work with children or youth is required to receive training on our policy and sign a covenant to ensure adherence to the policy.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Below is a summary of our policy which must be signed before anyone can care for children or youth during a PUMC event:<\/p>\n

Safe Sanctuaries Covenant <\/strong>\n<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n

The congregation of the Pitman United Methodist Church is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all children, youth, workers, and volunteers who participate in ministries and activities sponsored by the church.\u00a0 The following policy statements reflect a portion of our congregation\u2019s commitment to preserving this church as a holy place of safety and protection for all who would enter and as a place in which all people can experience the love of God in relationship with others.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

  1. No adult who has been convicted of child abuse should volunteer to work with children or youth in any church-sponsored activity.\n

    <\/span><\/li>\n

  2. All adult volunteers involved with children or youth must participate in Safe Sanctuaries training annually.<\/span>\n

    <\/span><\/li>\n

  3. Adult volunteers shall observe the \u201cTwo Adult\u201d rule at all times so that no adult is left alone with children or youth.\n

    <\/span><\/li>\n

  4. Adult volunteers shall immediately report to the pastor(s) any behavior that seems abusive or inappropriate.<\/span>\n

    <\/span><\/li>\n

  5. Adult volunteers must read and abide by all of the terms in the Safe Sanctuary Policy, Public Internet Site Policy, and all safety policies of the church.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol><\/div><\/div>\n
