<\/span>The music program at Pitman United Methodist Church seeks to Praise God, serve God, and inspire those in the loft and in the pew. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

We have a variety of musical ensembles for all ages in which to participate.\u00a0 <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

As we join our voices or instruments in music, we seek to come together to Praise the Lord! It is a blessing to give our time and talents to the Lord, and we invite you to join with us and to become part of that blessing! <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

VIPs:\u00a0 Voices in Praise (Adult Choir)<\/span><\/h3>\n

The Voices in Praise Choir is our adult choir, ages high school to ???!\u00a0 This group helps to lead the music of our 10:15 worship service throughout the year, September through June.\u00a0 We sing a variety of styles, ranging from contemporary, African American Spirituals, and through the tradition of the classics.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

Voices in Praise Choir<\/p><\/div>\n

For over eighty years, this choir, as well as other musical groups in the church come together for our annual \u201cCandlelight Cantata,\u201d that is held the Sunday before Christmas, at the traditional time of 4:15 p.m.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n

They also present special music during the Palm Sunday, Holy Week, and Easter celebrations. Occasionally, we join together with other church and community choirs to present such major works as Handel\u2019s Messiah<\/em>, and Faure\u2019s Requiem.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u00a0The Voices in Praise choir “season” runs from mid-September to late May.\u00a0 During that period, we rehearse on Thursday evenings in the sanctuary choir loft.\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Praise Team<\/span><\/h3>\n

The Praise Team leads the music during the worship services throughout the year.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

We sing primarily “contemporary” praise music, but our repertoire also includes many traditional hymns of the church.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Alleluia Bell Choir<\/span><\/h3>\n

This is an Adult Bell Choir which plays several times throughout the year.\u00a0 We also\u00a0 \u201ctake our show on the road\u201d\u00a0 and present our music ministry at the Pitman Manor.<\/span><\/p>\n

We rehearse as needed, usually in the sanctuary.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

Cherub Ringers & Singers<\/span><\/h3>\n

Cherub Ringers<\/p><\/div>\n

The Cherub Ringers are the youngest of our musical family (from ages 3-6), and they <\/span>provide \u201cspecial music\u201d many times throughout the year for our morning worship services.\u00a0 Our ringers play their colored bells to background accompaniment music.\u00a0 Each child has a bell, and as the director holds up the color-coded cards, the children ring their bells when they see their color.<\/p>\n

Learn More About Cherub Bells<\/span><\/span><\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\t
The cherub ringers use the Kristal Bell Method<\/span><\/strong><\/em>. They play their bells to background accompaniment music. Each child has one colored bell, and the choir director holds up a a card displaying the colors to be played. The cards are changed in time with the music (and watching the director keep up is almost as inspiring as listening to the children!). Each child rings his\/her bell when their color is displayed on the card. <\/span><\/p>\n

This simple method enables children (ideal ages 4 to 10 years old) to produce beautiful hand bell music accompanied by recordings of fully orchestrated song arrangements. The most unique aspect of this method is that no musical knowledge is necessary on the part of the hand bell players. The way that the system is designed makes it possible to perform almost instantly<\/span>.<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

The bells that the cherub ringers play are “8 note diatonic handbells.”\u00a0 The four sets that they play were purchased in memory of\u00a0\u00a0Sandy Porter, a long-time member of the church who loved hearing the church bells.\u00a0 The music of our cherubs, in praise to God, is a reminder of her witness. <\/span><\/strong><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/div>\n
The Cherubs can also sing!\u00a0 They bless us with their voices during some of our times of worship.<\/span><\/div>\n

Instrumentalists <\/span><\/h3>\n

Throughout the year, especially for our Easter and Christmas services, we welcome the addition of a variety of instruments. If you are interested in being a part of any of these special groups, please contact our music director.<\/span><\/p>\n
