2015 District Day of Learning to be Held at PUMC (3/7/15)

Delaware Bay District Day of Learning…

The annual District Day of Learning is a great way to pick up new faith skills and to make friends with fellow Methodists from around the District.  And best of all (for PUMC members)… it is held in our own church!

It will be held on Saturday, March 7. Registration and continental breakfast begin at 8:30 AM and the day continues with worship, lunch, and morning and afternoon workshops until 3 PM. Child care is available free of charge.

Forms for registration are available in the Narthex (and below).  Please indicate your need for child care when you register. There is a $10.00 fee for registration which includes the continental breakfast, lunch, and materials for the day. Please register by March 1st. Workshop descriptions are in the flier available in the Narthex.

2015 District Day of Learning

Learning to be a piece of the puzzle that bridges the Gap.

  • 8:30 AM  Registration and continental breakfast

Workshop Details

Morning Workshops
A.  UMW Officer Training & Information:

 includes officers’ job descriptions; important dates for filing paperwork and upcoming events.  There will be a time for sharing and exchange of ideas with those attending.

B.   S/PPRC:  provides a brief orientation on the work of the S/PPRC and its responsibilities in the appointment process of the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference.  Presenter:  Rev. Dr. Jisun Kwak, District Superintendent 

 

C.   Trustees:   work of the Trustees covers a wide range of issues, areas of expertise, and secular/Disciplinary rules and laws. Come ask our panel your questions on everything from the expansion of church facilities and the purchase of properties, to the role and responsibilities of the Trustees in every day church life.  Presenter: Rev. Peter Broomall, Chair District Board of Church Location & Building 

 

D.  Feed My Sheep: Creating a Food Pantry:  learn some of the do’s and don’ts of starting a local pantry.  How to get your church on board?  How to get food?  How to get money?  How to get the word out?  Presenter:  Rev.  Jonathan Campbell, Operations Manager CUMAC

 

E. Family Strengthening Network: will focus on the effectiveness of life coaching and the roll of the church in community outreach to create family stability. Learn how church members and pastors can make FSN part of their church’s ministry. Presenters: Rich Nichols, Program Director, Melissa Helmbrecht & Rachael Bill, Family Advocate Supervisor F. Becoming an Evangelizing Church: addresses three critical questions for evangelism in the local church: How do we reach out to others and share our faith? How do we become a welcoming and inviting church? How do we enable people to enter into a relationship with God? We will also identify the most helpful resources for enabling churches to become evangelizing communities. Presenter: Rev. Dr. Thomas Roberts, UMH Foundation  G. Local Missions Ministry Strategies: be empowered with practical “how-to” steps for developing fully-functional local mission ministries. Session will cover setting priorities, establishing guidelines for lay leaders, networking in the community and setting measurable metrics. Presenter: Rosalie O’Rourke, Legacy Advisor UMH Foundation H. Holy Conversations: Strategic Planning for Congregations: explores strategic planning as a spiritual practice for congregations and the role leaders play in guiding the process in their ministry context. Planning today in the church can be challenging and complex. A primary responsibility for leaders, both clergy and laity, is to help their congregation understand where it’s going; why it’s important to go there; and the steps necessary to reach their destination. Presenter: Rev. Dr. Richard Hendrickson, Director of Stewardship and Visioning, GNJ Annual Conference

I. WWJD? What Did Jesus Do? (Jesus’ Leadership in Small Group Ministry): will: Identify issues/concerns for creating fruitful Small Group Ministry; Engage in meaningful Small Group experience; Explore Jesus’ leadership in Small Group Ministry; Remember our Wesleyan roots for Small Group Ministry; Engage in spiritually alert decision-making process for Small Group Ministry utilizing the Wesleyan Quadrilateral. L.  Help! I Feel Like I’m Caught in the Middle:

 will explore the relational dynamics of conflict, and some helpful ways to navigate and resolve conflict in the church.
