PUMC Helps People in Need by Hosting Blood Drive (7/13/23)

PUMC  hosted an American Red Cross Blood Drive in our Fellowship Hall on July 13 2023.  We’ve done this before, and it’s become a regular event.  Most of us have probably given blood before.  It seems like a good thing to do.  But why?  Who are we helping?  Is it just a feel-good thing, or is it actually making a difference???

As it turns out, giving blood really does help people.  Real people- people like yourself. In fact, you may very well find yourself in need of blood someday.  If you get sick or if you’re in a car accident, somehow we just assume that medical care will be there.  If blood is needed, somehow it will just be there.   But that won’t happen without people like you giving blood at blood drives like this one.

Real People, Real Needs…

The American Red Cross website uses a series of videos to show how blood donations help real people.  Check out the following webpage:  Patients Helped By Blood Donations | Red Cross Blood Services

Here are a few examples of people who are helped by people who donate blood:

People with Cancer…

Car Accident Victims…

Children with Chronic Diseases…

The Summer Drive was a Success!

A goal of 22 blood units was set, but we were able to exceed the goal (slightly…).  A total of 25 units were collected! Many donors faithfully participate in these drives, and their efforts and generosity are very much appreciated.  The 25 units will make a difference in lives of our friends and neighbors.

The next blood drive at PUMC will be on Thursday, October 12th.  Mark your calendar and plan on joining in on this important effort.

So How Can I Help???

The American Red Cross is constantly holding Blood Donation clinics like the one at PUMC because the need is constant.  You can’t stockpile blood and assume it will always be there.  Blood is available because of real people who take a few hours out of their day to donate blood.

Here are the details of the Blood Drive which will be held at PUMC on 7/13/23…
