We hosted an American Red Cross blood drive back in July, but the needs keep coming.    In fact, the American Red Cross has designated January as “National Blood Donor Month.”   So we’re following last summer’s clinic with a winter donation.  Here are the details:

By Phone…

If all of that is too much, you can call the Red Cross at 800-733-2767 and schedule over the phone.

National Blood Doner Month

This month’s drive has several of special incentives.  All donors will receive:

  1. A coupon for a Free Medium Hot or Iced Beverage and Egg & Cheese Wake-Up Wrap, courtesy of Dunkin’!
  2. Automatic entry into a drawing to win a trip for 2 to Super Bowl LVII!
  3. Most importantly:  A knowledge that your investment of a short amount of time and effort will help save someone’s life!

Donation Types…

You can give a donation of either “Power Red” or of “Blood.” When you register, you’ll be asked to select one of these types. According to the Red Cross website, here are the differences:

Power Red: A Power Red donation collects the red cells but returns most of the plasma and platelets to the donor. These donors must meet specific eligibility requirements and have type A Neg, B Neg, or O blood.

Blood: The most common type of donation, during which approximately a pint of ‘whole blood’ is given. This type of blood donation usually takes about an hour.

If you’ve never donated blood before and have some concerns about how the process works and whether or not you’ll be able to make a donation, the American Red Cross website has a page just for you! Click below to view the “FAQ” page about blood donations. The Red Cross website also addresses concerns about COVID and how vaccinations may affect your donation.
