Not a Cold Day in November? Be Thankful Anyway!!!

The following message was posted on our signboard: DON’T WAIT UNTIL A COLD DAY IN NOVEMBER TO BE THANKFUL!   Paul reminds us in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18… Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Always? In ALL circumstances? This is August! It’s blazing hot and you can’t walk 10 feet without sweating to death. Joyful? Thankful?!? What if… The Mortgage is due and the...

Preschool and Elderberries Bridge Generations (11/18/15)

The Our Father’s House held our annual Thanksgiving Program on the morning of Wed. Nov.19.  The sanctuary was packed with proud parents and grandparents watching their children do… well…what kids do best: being kids!  After a lot of rehearsal, the classes of our preschool pulled off a delightful selection of short songs (complete with motions, laughter, and even a few moments where the “performers” yelled out to get their parents’ attention). About 40...

Daily Thanksgiving Prayer Meditation

What am I thankful for?  Most of us could probably name friends, family, home, or other material blessings.  But how do you develop a Thankful Attitude? How do you get into the mode where you can see God’s hand in everything, and then become truly thankful? The following video was produced by the United Methodist Church, and helps to lead you into a time of Thankful meditation.  Close the door, turn off the phone, lock out the distractions, and allow yourself to see God…  ...

Thanksgiving Turkey & Canadian Geese (11/23/14)

Pastor Jim’s sermon on Sunday November 23, 2014 came as we neared the Thanksgiving holiday.  As we anticipate the aroma of turkey, stuffing, and the vision of piles of mashed potatoes, what are we really thankful for?   Hit the play button (the recording is from the 2nd service), scroll  down,  and follow along.     The text was based on Psalm 100 and on 1 Corinthians 1:4-9.  In the recording, Pastor Jim read Psalm 100 from the Living Bible (“Life Application...

Our Father’s House Kids to Join with Seniors for Thanksgiving Feast! (11/19/14)

Our church hosts the Our Father’s House Preschool (for kids as young as 2 1/2 years old) and we also have a group known as the Elderberries (for “kids” as old as ___). On Wednesday November 19, these two groups will join together over music and food.   Dinner Theater??? Give Thanks in Your Own Way: Lunar Communion!

Did you know that the first drink consumed on the surface of the moon was communion juice (wine)?  The following story has been circulating around the Internet for years, but is well documented and confirmed (see http://www.hoax-slayer.com/communion-on-the-moon)….   NOTE: In addition to reading the following text, you can view a re-enactment in the YouTube clip that follows… Forty-three years ago two human beings changed history by walking on the surface of the moon. But what...
