Staff

The hands and feet behind the ministry at our church is the laity. But our staff provides the guidance, knowledge, and the special skills and experience that are needed in order for our ministries to be effective and Spirit Led.

Our church is blessed to have the resources of staff who is talented, resourceful, and (above all) deeply loves the Lord and strongly desires to serve Him.

Before joining PUMC as our pastor in July of 2014, Pastor Jim served the Franklinville UMC for 15 years. When he was first appointed to Franklinville, the church was part of a two point charge with Zion UMC in Porchtown. Under his leadership, the Franklinville UMC became a single charge, added a service, developed a Praise Band, purchased a new parsonage, and participated in numerous areas of community involvement.

Pastor Jim has a BS in both Bible and Theology, an M.Div., and in 2013 received his Doctor of Divinity. Before coming to Pitman, he served in East Pennsauken, Delair, and Marshall Memorial (Woodlynne), and Franklinville. He has also served as chairperson of the Delaware Bay District Committee on Ordained Ministry, on the Church Building & Location Committee, and was chairperson of the former Education Society.  Jim and his wife, Judy, have two daughters Rebecca and Lindsey.

In the July issue of Steeple Notes (our church newsletter), Pastor Jim introduced himself with the following letter…

DEAR SISTERS AND BROTHERS IN CHRIST:

It is with great joy and anticipation that Judy, Rebecca, Lindsey, and I come to the Pitman United Methodist Church. We truly praise God for the opportunity to join you in ministry. We look forward to greeting each of you and joining you in the wonderful ministry at Pitman.

Just a brief word about me. I am an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church and have served churches in the following locations: East Pennsauken, Delair, Woodlynne, Porchtown, and Franklinville. My current appointment is coming to end following 15 years.

One of my favorite verses of the Bible comes from Joshua 1:9, which says in part,

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Isn’t it great to know that even as “change” comes into our lives, our God remains consistent and faithful? Together as we begin a new season of our lives and ministry, we need not fear. For the One who has “called us by His grace” (Romans 8:29), has promised to be in our midst wherever we are! That is exciting!!!

The Bolton family is looking forward to meeting you and being with you. Let us be in prayer for each other as God brings this new and exciting change into our lives.

Peace, Pastor Jim

Our organist/director of music is a life-long member of our church. Mrs. Crispin was born and raised in Pitman, and being a part of the church’s music program began in our Junior Choir. She was a student of organ under long-time choir director/organist, Mr. Charles S. Ware. Through his direction and teaching, Mrs Crispin served as an accompanist for various choirs within the church. At the age of 16, she was called upon to be the choir director-organist of the Clayton Presbyterian Church, where she served for two years.

Mrs Crispin entered Glassboro State College, pursuing a degree in Music Education, with a concentration in vocal music and organ. She was a student of organ under Dr. Hoyle Carpenter and Dr. Keith Chapman. While attending Glassboro State College, (now Rowan University), she was called to the position of organist at the First Presbyterian Church of Pitman, serving under choir director, Clarence Miller. Upon graduation in 1978, she began her teaching career, and also returned “home” to serve as the organist/music director of the Pitman United Methodist Church. For the past thirty plus years, Mrs Crispin has led our choirs and congregation in the worship of God through music. Continuing to lead us in all styles of music from the classics to the contemporary, she shares her love of the Lord and uses His gift of music to His glory!

Mrs Crispin also teaches general and vocal music at the Pitman Middle School. On a personal note, she is wife to Steve, mother of 4, and grandmother to 7.

Managing the finances of our church is a huge undertaking that requires professional accounting skills. The treasurer operates under the direction of the Finance Committee to pay the bills and manage the accounts.

Bob Govett, Facilities Manager

Facilities@PitmanUMC.org

We have a tremendous building with a lot of capabilities, and we share it with our community. Our facility is almost always in use, either by our church or by outside community organizations. Our facilities manager has the experience in building maintenance, HVAC Systems, Electrical Systems, and anything else related to a large “commercial type” facility such as ours. This expertise is constantly needed to keep things running so that we can continue our level of ministry to the community.
