Pastor’s Ponderings: Our Faithful God Can be Trusted!

You ask a co-worker for help, and he responds, “I’ll get back to you on that as soon as I can…”  Do you have a lot of confidence that he will really come to help you?  The request probably went in one ear and out the other.

But that’ s not the way God works.  He made promises long ago and He keeps keeping them.  Even in our day, during this pandemic, our God is patient with us and He won’t turn His back on us.

Pastor Jim submitted the following thoughts on May 3, 2021…

Greetings Friends:
PLEASE READ: Exodus 34:5-6

The Lord God came down in a cloud and stood beside Moses there on the mountain. God spoke his holy name, “the LORD.”

Then he passed in front of Moses and called out, “I am the Lord God. I am merciful and very patient with my people. I show great love, and I can be trusted. (Contemporary English Version)

A theme that is echoed throughout the pages of Scripture is that God is faithful to His people.  Throughout much of the Old Testament we see God displaying profound faithfulness to His people.  It is so comforting, even reassuring to note that God remains faithful to us!  Isaiah 54:10 says, “For the mountains shall depart And the hills be removed, But My kindness shall not depart from you, Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed,” Says the Lord, who has mercy on you.”  (New King James Version).
Through God’s covenant, God makes a commitment to His people. The psalmist understood the unspeakable joy of God’s faithfulness recorded in Psalms 121:5-8, “The LORD watches over you—the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.  The LORD will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore” (New International Version).   Wow!  Talk about a commitment, talk about faithfulness!
What an amazing gift that God keeps giving to us; the gift of His companionship and faithfulness to us in the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit.  Before being crucified on a cross Jesus promised, “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.  I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, so that He may be with you forever; the Helper is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him; but you know Him because He remains with you and will be in you” (John 14:15-17 – New American Standard Version).
Friends, from Genesis to Revelation we are reminded of God’s faithfulness to us.  That gives us confidence to live and enjoy each day!  As an evangelist many years ago used to say, “Something good is going to happen to you!”  God is faithful.  Read the words of faith written by the psalmist in Psalms 31:14-16,

But as for me, I trust in You, Lord, I say, “You are my God.” My times are in Your hand; Rescue me from the hand of my enemies and from those who persecute me. Make Your face shine upon Your servant;  Save me in Your faithfulness” (New American Standard Version).

Sisters and Brothers, God is so faithful to us!  Are we faithful to God in all that we do?  May we continue to strive to be faithful and grow in our faithfulness to God through Jesus Christ!  Be blessed!

Pastor Jim
