Chalk Art Puts God into Our Walk (8/26/18)

Every first through fifth grade student in our Sunday School was handed a stick of chalk and some Bible verses, and then they were directed to the sidewalk outside of our Narthex.

The class has been learning a lot of Bible Stories, and the verses that their teachers handed them lifted up some of the key truths that these stories teach.

As Christians (regardless of age!), we are called and empowered to spread the Truth.  And so, if you come to the church and walk the sidewalks near the building, you will see some of the Truths which our children creatively “spread.”

Matthew 6:28-30    And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.  Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.

If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?

Isaiah 40:8   The grass withers and the flowers fall,  but the word of our God stands forever.

Genesis 9:13-16   I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth.  Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds,  I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life.

Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth.

3 John 1:4   I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

Mark 9:37   Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me but the one who sent me.

Philippians 2:8   And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself, and became obedient to death —  even death on a cross!

Proverbs 4:23   Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.

Artists at Work

It was a lot of fun, but it also took a lot of work and patience.  Here are some glimpses of our sidewalk artists in action:

All of God’s Children at Work

Kenny Rogers recorded a song called “You Decorated My Life.”  He was singing about the woman of his life, but doesn’t God also “decorate” our lives with all sorts of beautiful blessing?  He puts things into our life that are more beautiful and longer lasting than the flowers of the field.  He welcomes us like a little children, full of weaknesses and faults.  And He died on a cross so that His “Rainbow of Forgiveness” could always surround us.

God has decorated all of our lives.

What marks are we leaving in other people’s “walks”?

God has taken the blank paper of our lives and decorated them with His love.  He did that so that we could grab our own sidewalk chalk, proclaim that “decoration,” and invite others to draw too.
