Pastor’s Ponderings: Prayer Brings Peace in the Storm!

As Pastor Jim wrote this article (on 8/25/17), Hurricane Harvey was barrelling down on Southeast Texas. In addition to the other tragedies facing the world, each of us faces our own times of stress and change.   In the midst of impending storms, and in the middle of storms, be reminded that prayer offers a tremendous pathway for peace…

Greetings Friends:
Philippians 4:6-7 tells us,

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

These words from the Apostle Paul remind us that as our focus remains on God we can bring every concern in prayer and can experience a peace and confidence in all situations.
I am so grateful that God has given us the wonderful privilege of prayer. The words of Colossians 4:2 are important verses as they say,

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” It is a comfort and encouragement to know that we can freely come to God with our joys, concerns, and petitions.

It is exciting to know that God is hearing all of our prayers (Jeremiah 33:3), is concerned along with us, and that God responds to prayers. The words of Romans 12:12 encourage us as they say, “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.

That said, I would invite you to join me in prayer for the following:

  • For those in Texas who are in the pathway of the impending hurricane. The forecast is frightening I’m sure for all who live in God- First Priority or Last Resort?the forecasted areas. Let’s pray for safety and peace for all. Let’s remember the first responders and emergency workers as their services may be needed.

  • For the recovery and clean up efforts in Sierra Leone. Nearly 500 were killed and more than 3,000 lost their homes in devastating mudslides.

  • For peace, calmness, and unity throughout our country and the world.
  • For all college students as they begin a new year of study. Let’s also be in prayer for teachers and instructors on all levels of education as they begin a new school year.

Thank you friends for your faithfulness to God and intercession for others.
Pastor Jim

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need

(Hebrews 4:16)
